Mods Ruined Skyrim

Before you all come at me with pitchforks and torches, and exploding chickens, allow me to at least explain myself.

“Hey you. You’re finally awake.” (Image from Google)

Ahem. It is the year 2011, mid-December, and I wander into my sister’s room to see her with an Xbox controller in her hand. When I look at the TV I see two hands engulfed in flames. I was mesmerised.

What are you playing? I ask her. She looks at me and smiles, this new game called Skyrim.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the beginning of the end of my social life – not that I had one to begin with, mind you!

I played Skyrim every night after school, each weekend, and my six week holidays were mostly spent indoors on the game. I could not even begin to count the amount of hours spent in the land of Skyrim; slaying dragons and beheading Nazeem. I mean… uh… befriending.

Then 2016 came along and brought with it modding for console. Well, I was over-the-moon and spent hours creating the perfect load order.

I played my new save for about 50 hours and then decided I wanted to add more mods.

So I started another save. Played for a bit, wanted to change some mods. Started another save. Played more…

You get the gist of it. I spent more time modding the game than I actually did playing it. I’ve restarted countless times; I just never seem to be fully happy with my load order, or the character I’ve chosen to play.

Mods made the game look and play amazing, but they’d taken away my enjoyment of it.

I’d only played the main questline through once since the game released – same with the Dragonborn DLC. Whereas I’d played the Dawnguard DLC over a hundred times because it was after completing this that I would get the urge to restart.

Enough is enough! I want to enjoy this game like I did back in 2011/12.

So, I’ve decided I’m gonna delete my load order and only have mods that fix bugs and change the ui/hud. 10 mods max. No cosmetic mods, no graphics mods, no animation mods, etc.

Let’s see how far I get through the game playing mostly vanilla. I shall make sure to update you as I journey through the cold, harsh lands of Skyrim once more!

Have you had this issue with Skyrim and modding? Or perhaps another game that allows mods?
