Modern Women: April Writing Prompts
Let’s get inspired.

Here at Modern Women we want to embrace all aspects your experience of womanhood. We long to hear of your real-life experiences, the moments that have shaped you, taught you and made you belly laugh.
There is no one way to be a woman, there are no rules you need to follow to be valid or ‘enough’ and we know that when women come together and share our stories we not only empower ourselves in the telling, but we enrich the lives of others in the reading.
If you have stories on the tip of your tongue but aren’t quite sure how to start, or perhaps no specific story, just a need to start talking, we’d like to help you out with a monthly prompt to nudge your pen to paper.
Each month we will invite you to share a piece of writing on an overall theme, and also give you a few questions that may spark an answer you hadn’t realized you needed to share.
You can respond at any time during the month and how you respond is up to you… a poem, a personal essay or an article, see where the muse takes you. Our only request is that you share genuine, heartfelt and down-to-earth stories that you think other women might be inspired or empowered by.
The prompt for April is:
Hindsight is a fine thing.
How has your life changed over the past year?
What experiences would you go back and change knowing what you know now?
We talk about red flags so much these days, have there been red or white (positive signals) that you missed, that now seem glaringly obvious?
Which past self of yours would you most like to go back to and what would you like to tell her?
Alternatively, what would come next in this sentence?
The past is full of answers; the question I should have asked was…
If this month’s prompt isn’t the spark you need today, you are welcome to write for any of our previous writing prompts. Some of my personal favourites have been,
If you are submitting a response to a prompt, please include the tag ‘prompt’ when sending it to us and add a link at the bottom of your piece to the prompt you are responding to.
