Summary

The author expresses concerns that modern feminism, while aiming to empower women, may inadvertently reduce their worth in society by promoting sexual liberation and oversimplifying complex issues like the gender pay gap without thorough analysis.

Abstract

The article discusses the evolution of women's rights and the role of feminism in striving for equal rights and respect. However, the author, influenced by personal experiences, raises concerns about the trajectory of modern feminism. She argues that the movement's approach to sexual liberation, which encourages women to have multiple sexual partners, may lead to their objectification and undermine the pursuit of committed relationships. Additionally, the author critiques the blanket blame placed on the patriarchy for issues such as the gender pay gap, suggesting that such generalizations hinder constructive dialogue and problem-solving. The article calls for a more nuanced understanding of these complex issues to truly empower women and improve their status in society.

Opinions

  • The author believes that modern feminism's endorsement of sexual liberation may harm women by making sex too readily available, potentially leading to their objectification.
  • She is concerned that the feminist narrative around the patriarchy oversimplifies issues like the gender pay gap without sufficient research and data analysis.
  • The author emphasizes the importance of relationships leading to marriage for women's security and long-term happiness, opposing the idea that happiness is found only in monogamous relationships.
  • She suggests that feminists should engage in open discussions based on data to understand and effectively address the root causes of gender-related issues, rather than solely attributing them to misogyny.
  • The author encourages readers to question their biases and avoid attributing complex societal issues to a single factor, advocating for a more balanced approach to feminism.

My Argument As To Why Modern Feminism Does The Opposite Of Female Empowerment

During my great-great-grandmother’s time, my society had a saying that a woman should only leave her house on two occasions: firstly, to go to her husband’s house and secondly, to go to the grave. When my mother told me about this, I was shocked. I thought, did the men not have an ounce of respect for the women that birthed them?

Women’s rights have significantly increased since my great-great-grandmother’s time, but there are still a lot of issues we women face in society, like rape and single motherhood, just to name a few.

Thus, the rise of feminism, which fought for everyone in society to be provided with equal rights and respect, is a movement that I firmly believe in. However, as someone raised by a single mother, I am concerned that modern feminism pushes a movement that disadvantages women, thus reducing our worth in society.

Listed below are a few of the concerns I have.

1. Sexual Liberation

One of the arguments for women’s sexual liberation is to rebel against the agenda of the patriarchy. Feminists believe that the patriarchy wishes to control women by convincing them that happiness exists for them only in monogamous relationships.

Another argument presented is that if a man is allowed to have sex with multiple partners, then a woman should be allowed as well.

My Concern

Women are the key that opens the doors to sex.

The reason why men became promiscuous in the first place is that there are women who provide men with an opportunity to have sex without becoming worthy of it.

Making sex as available as water to men does not do anything but harm the empowerment of females by making it so readily available for a lot of men to use and discard the woman because women desire sexual liberation.

I firmly believe that long-lasting happiness and peace only exist in a relationship where the result is marriage because it ensures that both parties enter the relationship in search of their forever partner, thus providing security to the woman that the man’s intent is not to objectify her but to love her.

2. The Patriarchy

Feminism defines the patriarchy as a society where men rule, thus being able to control women.

One area where feminism sees the patriarchy to be the most dominant is the STEM field, where misogynistic men don’t believe that women should be in the field of science due to it requiring intellect.

Another is the gender pay gap, in which men, on average, earn more than their female counterparts. Feminists deemed the reason for the pay gap to be misogyny and the patriarchy.

My Concern

While it is true that some men have the partial mindset that women are not capable of understanding and advancing in fields of science. Concluding that this is the primary reason without research and analysis of data provides ammunition for people who believe women are not capable of science.

I watched a video where a man and a woman discussed the gender pay gap. The man was attempting to explain the reason, based on data, for the pay gap, but the woman said that no explanation could justify the difference.

Feminists should be open to having discussions not to prove their opinions correct but rather to find a way to understand the cause of the issue so that an effective solution can be developed for the problems feminists blame on men.

Summary and Conclusion

What I hope my readers will understand from this article is:

  1. Just because you don’t like someone does not mean that everything from their mouth is wrong and pure evil.
  2. Secondly, assuming one factor is solely to blame for any matter never helps resolve it.

I hope I have presented my argument clearly, and I can’t wait to have a conversation with you (the readers) in the comment section.
