Summary

The article discusses the failure of Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to provide adequate stimulus relief during the pandemic, leading to widespread hunger and economic hardship in America.

Abstract

The article on the undefined website highlights the dire situation faced by Americans during the pandemic, with one in eight experiencing hunger. It criticizes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for obstructing stimulus relief efforts, despite evidence of increased hunger and shoplifting for essentials. The author, Jennifer Friebely, points out that McConnell's reluctance to provide aid is politically motivated, as he only considers stimulus checks when it benefits his party's political standing. The article also references other authors, such as Michael Arceneaux, who accuse McConnell of negligent manslaughter due to his inaction. The upcoming Georgia runoff election is presented as a critical moment that could end McConnell's control over the Senate and potentially alleviate the suffering of Americans.

Opinions

  • The author expresses shock and disappointment at the government's failure to support citizens, particularly in the context of AOC's poignant speech to an empty House floor.
  • There is a strong sentiment that McConnell is knowingly preventing aid from reaching starving Americans, prioritizing political gain over humanitarian concerns.
  • The article suggests that McConnell's sudden willingness to consider stimulus checks is not out of compassion but rather a response to political pressure as his party faces backlash.
  • The author conveys that McConnell's insistence on corporate liability protection is a major obstacle to providing necessary aid to the public.
  • There is a clear stance that McConnell's actions (or inactions) are morally reprehensible and that his power is a detriment to the country's well-being.
  • The author implies that the Georgia runoff election is crucial for the nation's future and could lead to more compassionate governance under the Biden administration if McConnell's influence is diminished.

Mitch McConnell: We Need Disaster, Not Stimulus Relief

Americans are going hungry and suffering

One in eight Americans are going hungry.

People were going hungry the week before Thanksgiving and the Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell broke the Senate. I wrote an article at the time about a poignant speech AOC gave to an empty House floor. I was shocked that our government let so many American citizens down.

The Washington Post recently reported that shoplifting for groceries, baby items, and hygiene products have spiked since the pandemic began. A huge segment of the population is facing food instability in the United States.

Americans are stealing food to survive.

The coronavirus recession has been a relentless churn of high unemployment and economic uncertainty. The government stimulus that kept millions of Americans from falling into poverty earlier in the pandemic is long gone, and new aid is still a dot on the horizon after months of congressional inaction. Hunger is chronic, at levels not seen in decades.

In his article Mitch McConnell Is Guilty of Negligent Manslaughter, Michael Arceneaux reminds us that the person who can help the American people regardless of what our useless commander-in-chief is doing in the White House (like having temper tantrums) is Mitch McConnell. It’s disgusting to think that he is knowingly preventing starving people from receiving desperately needed aid. Arceneaux writes:

This is on McConnell, and not enough people recognize that he’s the one holding up putting money in the pockets of those who need it most.

As much fault as Donald Trump deserves for creating this nightmare, there’s someone else who has long had the power to make life a lot less painful for those suffering through no fault of their own — and hasn’t acted on it.

Mitch McConnell has had the power to fix the problem.

Because two Georgia senators who are up for re-election are in peril, McConnell is begrudgingly willing to throw in some stimulus dollars for Americans. Citing an article in The New York Times, the GOP is “getting hammered” on this issue. Incredible — they can’t get behind DISASTER stimulus checks to Americans who are starving because it’s humane — they are behind the funding because it’s politically beneficial. Their only goal is to stay in power. They do not care that people are suffering. These Republicans are transparently disgusting.

Most of us would think that it would make political sense to get behind a stimulus package that would help all Americans during one of the darkest times in our history. Instead Mitch McConnell is worrying about corporate liability. This is what is preventing people from getting help. Again, Arceneaux says it perfectly,

In an op-ed for NBC News, California congresswoman Katie Porter writes, “For months, McConnell has insisted that Congress should take action to protect corporations that are alleged to engage in wrongdoing and endanger their employees, consumers and patients. Companies that don’t provide protective equipment or mandate physical distancing in the workplace, for example, would face no civil liability when their workers become sick.”

Yes, he wants corporations to kill you without consequence.

The Georgia runoff election is critical to get rid of McConnell.

Mitch McConnell is fighting like hell for his political survival right now. He needs for those two GOP senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler to both win their runoff elections in Georgia to maintain control of the Senate.

The best thing for the country (to be rid of Mitch McConnell) is for the GOP to lose the runoff election in Georgia and for Raphael Warnock and Joel Ossoff (the two Democrats) to win their respective Senate seats. This will determine how the Biden administration is able to govern.

Georgia has the entire country watching right now. Let’s all send good vibes. Light prevails over the darkness. Mitch McConnell is truly the darkness. He held up aid when he had the ability to help people who are suffering. That is evil. Let’s hope Georgia’s voters decide to take away Mitch McConnell’s power now that we’ve fired the little orange man.
