Missing Washington, D.C. And The Cherry Blossoms

The blossoms bring such beauty to the earth

Cherry blossoms are a highlight of spring

One of our favorite parts of living in the Washington, D.C. area for thirteen years was the cherry blossom season every spring. We drove around the Tidal Basin many times during the possibly two weeks that the beautiful blossoms were in full bloom. I would go there during the early morning, daytime, and evening hours to walk among the cherry blossoms and take photos.

The cherry blossoms are a beautiful part of nature and of life. The cherry blossoms are one of the things that I miss after having moved away from the area of the nation’s capital.

The cherry trees which were originally a gift from the Mayor of Tokyo to the City of Washington, D.C. are a huge tourist attraction. They are also something that the local people look forward to every year. The blossoms are a symbol of the friendship between the United States and Japan.

People enjoy walking among the blossoms or sitting down to enjoy their beauty. Some people spend many hours in that area during the spring.

With the COVID pandemic, people have been encouraged to stay at home and look at the blossoms virtually and on television. Many people do not heed that advice and cannot resist going to the area of the Tidal Basin to walk among the blossoms and take in their magnificent beauty. The Cherry Blossom Festival this year will be virtual so many people are able to enjoy the festivities.

Cherry trees have also been placed near monuments throughout the city.

Cherry blossoms are not exclusive to Washington, D.C.

After moving back to my home state of Utah, we found that the cherry trees around the Utah State Capitol are very beautiful as well. What used to be several trees in front of the Capitol are now many trees surrounding the entire building. It is possible to walk around the Capitol through the trees. Although I miss the cherry trees of Washington, D.C., I am able to enjoy the beautiful trees in Utah.

Many other areas of the United States also have cherry trees enhancing the beauty of the area and signaling that spring has come.

Thank you for reading. I hope you can enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms.
