Mirror Mists
Fairy Collection # 7

Once relegated to the broken remains of a glass crone, the occasional bit of mercury, a perfectly flat body of water, or the scales of a mirrored fish, these living clouds were merely an existential threat. Until humans started bubbling over the face of Langrisha’a, placing mirrors on the walls of every house; now, everywhere must be where.
A Mirror Mist causes a silvery fog to appear around the mirror’s edges as it awaits a sentient creature to gaze into it. Once a person or even a member of the Fair Folk looks into its mist, the Mirror Mist passes through them, an almost invisible but still perceptible cloud of indifference, stealing a treasured memory.
Some Mirror Mists are looking for specific types of memories and will seek out particular areas. Mists searching out memories of tragic loss may lurk near a graveyard or hospital. One seeking out joy may ensconce itself somewhere children play. The truth is they are only feeding on a person’s spiritual essence, not purposely trying to help or harm them. These sorts of neutral but inscrutable motivations are almost always more frightening for the targets.
This is where the feeling of de ja vu comes from; A Mirror Mist will sometimes float around, waiting near the spot where a collected memory occurred. Eventually, a person will unknowingly walk right through a mirror mist; allowing them to experience a memory of doing something they are only now doing for the first time. Yet, somehow feel as if they have done it before.
The only way to destroy a Mirror Mist is to shatter the mirror one awaits inside before it can escape with your memory.
