Mirror Mirror on the Poetry Wall
Jules interpretations of Poetry #2

Today’s Jules interpretation of Poetry is not about a singular poem but an article that took me on an incredible, learning the language of Poetry, dance. I love the tagline for the publication — “Don’t just tell me — Move me!” So far, my takeaway on this Poetry path is learning to tap into my senses, not just my thinking. That is an excellent definition for the language of Poetry.
Learning the language of poetry, as I am discovering, is not about the words but the feelings behind the smooth glide of terms — the incredible ability to take your hand and lead you through a land of feelings and emotions.
No wonder I struggled.
This particular article opened a massive door to understanding. It allowed me to read seven different poems based on the word mirror all in one place. The icing on the cake was the link, in the end, to a YouTube video. The narrator reads his three Poetry choices aloud with music playing in the background. Talk about heartstrings pulled.
For my interpretation today, I pulled one line from each poem to give my “through new eyes” attention to a feeling.
Howling rebellion –the angst of a teenager to me Feeling: anger
Nestled in comfort — wrapped tightly in a soft blanket Feeling: safe
Greet the melting morning — dark fades to light Feeling: hope
Ice will breathe soft patterns — the beauty of breath in the cold Feeling: quiet strength
Crossword puzzle poetry — a million in one ways Feeling: wonderment
Every breath that reflects me — present moments Feeling: calm
I am excited, thrilled actually, about my journey through the language of Poetry. It brings me deeper into my sense of mindful, present moments. This path guides me back to the beginning steps of mindfulness — my five senses — to bask in the glorious realm of feelings rather than fear or avoidance, as I did for many previous years.
Now, it’s your turn. Leave a comment to a link of a poem (yours or someone else’s) that is about mirrors.
Until next time!
