Mindful Discoveries From Today’s Morning Walk

Every morning, I bring my dog to the dog park to play with her friends. We’ll go for a longer walk on nice mornings, like today.

We went down a new street today. Maybe that is what prompted me to look up and be more present, especially since my Bindi girl was very calm and was walking very well with me. None the less, I am thankful for choosing a new street, as there were a lot of beautiful discoveries that I probably could have also found on familiar streets:

  • It had rained here last night, so the water condensation on the leaves glistened in the morning sun.
  • There are so many bunnies in my neighborhood, how are there so many??
  • The rain must have been heavy, as the streets looked very clean and the grass was leaning over to one side on everyone’s lawns.
  • Longer stems on bushes that came into the sidewalk area smelled of beautiful flowers with their fall blossoms coming in, I really need to learn more about shrubs and trees. It’d be wonderful to be able to say which was which.
  • I used to walk with a very heavy step pressing my heel into the Earth first, and I noticed this morning I don’t really do that anymore after making a conscious effort to change it a few years ago. I felt proud of myself.
  • The aromas of breakfast and coffee seeping from neighbors’ windows was so beautiful, it reminded me of walking into a diner on vacation.
  • Mornings are my favorite time of day. I love being up before the rest of the city, I need to try to get up even earlier than I do now.
  • There are so many types of trees in this neighborhood with unique bark patterns that are cool to look at!

What did you notice during your walk today? I’d love to learn about it in the comments!
