Mind the Gap

You’re on the cusp between the yellow and red Snapchat heart. You’ve been talking to that girl consistently for almost two weeks. Congrats! She might actually like you back. She flirts, you talk every day, but you’re always the one texting first. Now, you got left on read.

That’s been it, right? The thing tugging at the back of your skull, the itch you’ve been dying to scratch. You’ve been staring at the screen for ten minutes already. It’s like walking a tightrope over a gap of uncertainty, and somehow awfully familiar. Almost like leaning too far back on a chair- dangling between pain and stagnation. To be honest, you’re not sure which is worse.

Pain is an old friend, a real pain in the ass- but he got you to react. Pain might have gotten you into a hole, but stagnation is the one holding you down every time you try to crawl out.

My friend, it’s better to make the same mistake twice than to watch from the sidelines. You’ll be wishing you got your heart broken more often. Pain itself is temporary, but it’s the fear of pain that lingers.

You’re too young to be scared of uncertainty. Fall off the chair, you’ve got a lifetime to heal. If you get hurt, make it count. Let it be by your own choice.

Hurdle over that gap before someone else pushes you or better yet, before she gets tired of waiting. I know you are. After all, it takes two to get the heart.
