He stood by Trump’s side for four years.

After serving a full term as Vice President under Donald Trump, Mike Pence has said he does not endorse Trump for the 2024 election. It is likely that Pence knows Trump better than any of the Republican members of Congress who are supporting Trump. Pence has suggested that people should not vote for Trump.

Pence can expect to be one of Trump’s favorite targets for ridicule and bullying along with others who have come out against him.

As someone who worked closely with Trump, Pence must know of the vindictiveness of Trump and his penchant for going after his enemies. Now Pence has become a part of that group. Pence is showing bravery in publicly coming out against Trump.

A story by Marina Pitofsky for USA TODAY was titled: “Mike Pence accuses Donald Trump of ‘walking away’ from the Constitution after refusing to endorse him.”

Former Vice President Mike Pence accused former President Donald Trump of “walking away” from the Constitution days after refusing to endorse the Republican frontrunner.

Pence told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday that many Americans think his “profound differences” with Trump are only over the events surrounding the Capital riot. Trump and Pence publicly split after the attack on Jan. 6, 2021, with Pence refusing to try to intervene in Congress’ certification of the 2020 election.

But the former vice president on Sunday explained to CBS’ Margaret Brennan that his divide with Trump stretches beyond the events of one day.

“The issue of fealty to the Constitution is not a small matter,” Pence said. “But it’s not just that. I mean, the reason that I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump this year also has to do with the fact that he is walking away, not just from keeping faith with the Constitution on that day, but also, Margaret, with a commitment to fiscal responsibility, a commitment to the sanctity of life, a commitment to American leadership in the world.”

Pence also was critical of Trump calling the Capitol rioters who are serving in prison as hostages.

Because Pence did not do well in his campaign for the 2024 Republican primary for President, it appears that Trump has many more followers than Pence. Whether Pence has much influence among Republicans remains to be seen.

Although Pence has said that it should be no surprise that he is not endorsing Trump, it is unusual. Pence has been a very religious person who believes in right and wrong. It was perhaps surprising that he would agree to serve with Trump who seems to not have the same values or morals as Pence.
