Love
Midnight Blue: Conclusion(Part 2/2)
Revealing why this shade of blue became the new color of love

In case you missed Midnight Blue, Part One:
Although she did not know this yet, her transplanted blue eyes were visible to no one.
That morning her husband Fil, walked into their newly renovated stainless steel kitchen carrying courier delivery packages, left in the car for the last three days. All in the interest of Covid-19 virus disinfection. He kissed her good morning. Gently with a loving touch, he pushed straggly bed-head hair away from Elsa’s eyes and mouth. Staring at her for a moment, Fil remarked she appeared to have slept well.
Elsa, fearful she might have a breakdown, pecked his cheek and busied herself, reaching for breakfast goodies in a nearby cupboard. She commanded her brain to stop imagining outrageous things, like hidden dimension beasts cutting out her eyes for real in the middle of the night. She accepted the coffee Fil had brewed for her and carried the pale yellow ceramic mug into her home office.
Another mirror lived behind the big oak door in that room. Elsa almost did a vertical face plant. The cup of coffee in her hand crashed to the floor. Her new blue eyes were now fluorescent. As though they were attached to a cord and plugged into a wall socket. Neon gas flowing.
And Fil. Fil could not see them.
Still hypnotized by her implanted eyes, Elsa freaked out spying a rapidly expanding, squalid mass forming behind her. The room was quickly becoming crammed with a dirty gray smoke-like fog. She sensed the hot coffee and broken glass currently stinging her bare feet. She watched in horror as the debris was sucked up and vanished somewhere within the cloud. Black magic.
Elsa, momentarily frozen in place, was unable to move. She was shivering similar to a winter camper caught without shelter when the snow suddenly turned to hail.
A voice began speaking from somewhere in the murky room, a genderless sounding tone, cold and emotionless.
Only you can hear me, Elsa. I will speak to you this one time. For decades the greed and cruelty in humanity have been conjuring this mass of filthy, decaying vapor. At first, it drilled deep into the earth’s core oozing up and out randomly as time progressed. About four years ago, the world stood by and effectively helped put in power the human embodiment of this distasteful, odious gas.
What we have allowed you to see today with your new eyes has been, in another literal form, gradually unveiled to all others. It is the evil unleashed by hate, racism, misogyny, religious discrimination, ageism, alternative gender and related phobias, greed, narcissism, climate destruction, hunger, lack of health care, thirst, ignorance, inadequate education, lies, needless violence, rape, death and now… a world population culling plague.
Today, others can only see these horrors in real-time. The tainted gas you, Elsa, observe enclosing the demons is still invisible to every person’s naked eyes. By the time we permit them to watch the gray darkness penetrating every pore of all living things, it will be too late. The destruction of humanity and the earth will be complete.
Elsa managed a few words.
Why me? Why do you allow me to see it now, today, before the others are able? Why show me all its vampire-monster horror?
She choked on her tears and on the sour bile coating her throat as she begged for an answer. Desperate.
The voice, hurriedly, one last time.
As a last resort, we randomly picked one human. It was a lottery. You won. The answer to that question lives inside of you.
With that, the voice disappeared. The hateful putrid gray smog remained. The stuff visible only to Elsa through her glistening midnight blue eyes, clung to her like food wrap sticking to a bowl of last night’s pasta buried inside the fridge.
That vomit of smog surrounded and trapped Elsa in its clutches.
She managed to move to the den beside her office. The one with the small but comfy red velvet sofa and a partially obstructed view of her backyard. This room with the silently blasting television. She closed the door, lay down and tried to reconcile the last twelve or so hours. The sinister dense fog was relentlessly enveloping her. Elsa closed her eyes and searched inside her being for an answer. Within an hour or so, it appeared.
Elsa silently went back to her kitchen, glancing at her love intently reading a book, sitting in his chair at the antique pine dining room table. He did not look up as Elsa paused. She mentally embraced Fil, emanating more love toward him than she ever thought possible. Shortly she returned to the tv room and locked the door. She lay down on the hardwood floor beside the sofa, first removing all her clothes.
From the inside of the waistband attached to her now discarded morning sweatpants, Elsa retrieved the oversized chef’s knife. Just moments ago, she hijacked it from her kitchen. She found her answer, her destiny to make amends.
Slowly, with deliberate force, Elsa clutched the knife and began stabbing deep gashes into her entire naked torso. Thankfully Fil had recently sharpened the blade. Still, the pain was excruciating, but she stayed on mission. She did not make any sound. No screams.
At some slow to reach point, the blood draining out of her wounds ended her life. Not before her mind conjured the ultimate visualization, the result of her selfless act. Elsa witnessed the certainty that her actions had ushered the saving grace for the world. The sacrifice she was chosen to make by some alien force. A demonstration of her ultimate love for humankind and everything else on the earth.
While her plasma streamed from her wilting body, in what was left of her consciousness, she saw the eyes of every human being on the planet transform into a blazing color of midnight blue.
Elsa watched as all earthbound lost souls huddled in small and large clusters, observing their inevitable futures trapped inside the descending putrid-gray muck of clouds. The power in their vibrant gazes unleashed cooperative and nurturing tools. Ones they unknowingly until now, already possessed. Yet before today those implements were buried in solidified layers of human emotional quicksand and mud.
It took Elsa’s trickling rivers of blood to convert their eyes and brains, enabling all people to halt the impending doom, regardless of individual differences.
She, Elsa, handed them the reins to prevent the end of the world.
