Weekly MidJourney Office Hours Recap
MidJourney V7 Incoming After V6 Beta Launch; Potential API Access with Big AI Labs on the Horizon!🤯
A Comprehensive Recap of MidJourney’s Weekly Office Hours (February 22)
Hello, lovely creatives! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic week filled with creativity! 🎨✨
Welcome to another weekly “Exciting Updates of MidJourney”: Every week, I’m here to provide you with a thorough recap of the latest from the MidJourney Office Hours — where David Holz, the founder of MidJourney, shares updates and answers questions from the community on the MidJourney Discord every Wednesday.
As some of you may have noticed, this week’s MidJourney Office Hours were rescheduled to a day later than usual.
But no worries; let’s dive into what’s new with MidJourney right now — we have a lot of exciting news to cover! 😄

🎁 Wrapping Up V6 Alpha before launching the official Beta
With MidJourney V6 Alpha becoming the default last week, the team is now working on further improvements before the transition to the official Beta version:
• A set of 3 visual consistency features
1 — Upgraded “Style References” feature 🖼️
- It will be a different and more complicated version of the current “Style References” system to merge with the upcoming “Character References” system.
- The goal is for users to be able to separate “styles” and “colors”.
David explained: This new system has multidimensionality to it. On the website, you can upload the images, and it will give you a list of checkboxes to select what aspects of the image you want to keep in the images; We are figuring out how we could do it on Discord.
🗓️ If this feature can’t make it in time for the release before V6 turns to Beta, it may eventually be released in MidJourney V6.1 or V7.
2 — NEW “Character References” feature 👯
- This new feature aims to have consistent characters across many images.
- It’s the most requested feature among the MidJourney community.
- It will work similarly to the “Style References” feature that was just released.
- David said they had already developed something that looked “pretty good”.
- The feature is currently being tested, and a moderation system is being figured out.
🗓️ Will take 1–2 more weeks to make it better before releasing.
3 — NEW “Color References” feature 🎨
- A new feature for color consistency, which works just like style and character references.
🗓️ David mentioned that the release of this feature is uncertain, but he is more inclined towards a yes.

In case it slipped by you, MidJourney has recently rolled out an impressive new feature known as “Style References” — a real game-changer. For a deeper understanding and to admire some amazing visual examples, be sure to check out this Ultimate Guide:
⚠️ I’m also cooking up a guide for a secret hack I’ve discovered while exploring “Style References,” so make sure you stay tuned for that! 👀
• A new “Describe” feature
The
/describefeature is a long-existing MidJourney feature: You can upload an image to MidJourney, and the AI will “describe” the image to give you a reference of what should be included in the prompt if you want to duplicate a similar image.
- The new version /describe will be way more accurate than the current one.
- It’s better at giving you prompts that are closer to the image.
- David Holz, the founder, said he’s pretty happy with how it is currently looking.
🗓️ The team will do the last tests, and will release it in 1–2 weeks.
• Improved prompt understanding
Expect even more accurate visual translations of your text prompts.
• Aesthetic bump
- Fine-tuning the image aesthetics, delivering even better image output, and further reducing the current model bias.
- The team is currently doing a rating party where everyone can rate images to help them fine-tune the aesthetics: https://www.midjourney.com/rank-party-v6

• Greater image coherence
There will be a new level of unity and fewer unexpected results, along with the potential for a significant upgrade in body coherence.
• Refined textures
Expect more realistic textures, such as human skin, grass, and paint on canvas.
• Increased speed
- The team is deploying additional servers, so you can expect V6 image generation to be much faster at the same price.
- There will also be a Turbo mode available for professional use.
🗓️ The switch from V6 Alpha to Beta is expected to happen in a week or two.

👀 What to expect in MidJourney V7
V7 will be the main focus of the MidJourney team after wrapping up V6. David mentioned, “The jump from V6 to V7 will be like V5 to V6, but more of it.”
MidJourney V7 will have the following updates:
- A much cleaner system;
- May release a new video feature; (yay!)
- Improved pixel image quality;
- Expanded model knowledge base;
- Improved coherence;
- Better prompt understanding;
- Improved tiny details in the images, like distorted faces, will look way better.
🗓️ The launch timeframe for V7 is set for several months from now.

Other exciting updates
💻 New social feature on the MidJourney website
- The team is working on new social features for the website to be released in the next week or so.
- David is keeping the exact social features as a mystery for now on how exactly that will be, he said, “it may be kind of dramatic but in a good way”.
⚙️ ControlNet
- David is less certain about ControlNet at the moment; he’s not happy with how it looks and will monitor its improvements over time.
🐉 China version of MidJourney
- David mentioned that while using MidJourney in China is currently quite difficult, a Chinese version may be released soon, allowing users to access the platform without a VPN.
🫱🏻🫲🏻 Potential AI lab partnerships & API
- Over the next six months, MidJourney is exploring the possibility of partnering with multiple big AI labs!
- When that happens, it will mark the first time MidJourney has offered API access.
- MidJourney may also consider teaming up with some big language models in V7 or V8 to improve MidJourney’s model in terms of language understanding.
- There are currently some talks about a potential partnership with 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), you can read more about it here:
