Hello everyone, welcome back to another week of Midjourney office hours update. It’s hard to believe that we’re already one-third of the way through the month.
Midjourney V6 is rapidly evolving with new features and upgrades in January. This new iteration includes numerous improvements such as image quality, language comprehension and better text.
Up next, expect to see the highly anticipated inpainting, outpainting and character consistency!
Midjourney V6 Alpha Upgrade🔥
After refinements, v6 will become the default Midjourney model later this month. Key features like inpainting and outpainting will arrive as well.
First Upgrade This Week🎨
The first major upgrade for V6 jas just been made early this week. Midjourney V6 alpha undergo numerous enhancements, including:
- Improve Upscale (2x faster)
- Improved Aesthetics, Coherence, Prompt adherence and Image Quality
- Improved performance at high
--stylizevalues - Better Text Generation
Meanwhile, I am writing tips related to prompting with text, stay tuned for that!
📌 Midjourney V6 has an improved method for understanding prompts.
This will require a new approach to creating prompts. Learn the techniques that I presviously share here in “ Midjourney V6 Essentials”.
V6 Inpainting and Outpainting Arrive Next Week🎨
By next week, v6 alpha will add long-awaited capabilities like inpainting, pan, and zoom.
- Inpainting: Enable removing unwanted elements or changing parts of an image.
- Pan and Zoom: provide more control over an image’s crop and perspective.
Bringing these beloved V5.2 tools into V6 will be a huge win.
Style & Character Consistency🎨
By the end of January, V6 will become the default model and we can expect to see:
- Style Consistency: Allows generating multiple images of the same subject while retaining identity and attributes.
- Character Consistency: Enables generating multiple images of a subject while retaining identity.c

Next, let’s see the updates of the Midjourney website. For users who have generated over 10k images, you will be able to use the Alpha version which comes with:
- Image Generation
- Addition of folders
- Improved filters
- An updated Archive Page
In January
The focus will be to add as many new features as possible like:
- Social features ( expected to fully available by the end of January)
- A Wider Variety of Images on the front page
- A Collaborative Feature on the Alpha page for testing purpose
In February
The main aim is to
- Polish and refine everything to perfection.
- The AI moderation capabilities will be significantly enhanced, providing a safer and more enjoyable experience for all our users.

In February, V6 is expected to bring us several new features:
New Style Tuner 🖍️
Post-V6, MidJourney will focus on style consistency, bringing forth a new Style Tuner to ensure consistent styles across prompts
It is currently underway and will be a completely new style tuner compared to the previous version.
Video 🎥
Initial video features are getting close for release in an early version, they will be limited and likely connected to an image upscaler, with minimal user control.
Unlike other video AI, Midjourney aims for visual excellence by default.

Niji 6 is set to be released this month!🥳 Note that the upcoming Niji version might not include a text generation feature because the developers want to prioritize support for Japanese and Chinese characters.
