Midjourney is testing a new photo-realistic version
Did you have a chance to test the new photo-realistic version of Midjourney? If not, you should hurry; it is only available for 1–2 days and will be removed for new improvements. Don’t worry; if you missed it, I did a test for you, and soon it will be released as a separate version of Midjourney! Check out my results so far.
What could be more exciting for an AI artist to wake up early in the morning and see a new announcement in the Midjourney discord server about further testing again?
Shortly after the public release of Stable Diffusion, Midjourney brought its photo-realistic beta version to the market just a few days ago. However, after a testing phase of only 24 hours, David and his team decided to turn this beta version off and make some improvements.
Midjourney’s tests are back again!
Today it is back again with some new options. For the next 24-48 hours, depending on the user behaviors (guys, please, we all know what “ladies in bikinis” look like), we can create new, more cohesive AI images.
New Midjourney settings
I love to create portraits of beautiful women, so I decided to test it with the following options and show you the results.
- A general-purpose artistic mode — test
- A general-purpose artistic mode — test — creative
- A photo-realism mode — testp
- A photo-realism mode — testp — creative
- Midjourney M3 version
You can also add an aspect ratio; the maximum aspect ratio supported is 3:2 or 2:3. I use the — ar 2:3 for my portraits.
Now it is possible to add “stylize” with — s 1250 — s 5000 maximum.
We will see which Midjourney version will do its magic best. But don’t worry, you can use both versions of Midjourney, the artistic and the photo-realistic, and I am excited to work with both!

This time I liked only the first image with only — test. The V3 version was the worst, in my opinion. What do you think?

Missing arms in V3 are totally normal, so no surprise again. In this batch, I like the 2. AI image the most, — test + — creative again. The first is also not bad; just some little details on the lips are messed up.

Here I like the 4. image, — testp + — creative. The 1. and 2. pictures are also pretty beautiful, but unfortunately, the hands look strange. Remember, V3 doesn’t give your characters even arms.

I love all images from the new version; if I chose, I would buy the 2. image. But I feel the V3 version worsens when we test the latest version. Earlier I had great results with the standard Midjourney version, but at the moment, it is not working at all for me.
Conclusion
Overall I think for portraits, the new photo-realistic version is much better. I wish it could be more artistic and surprising and add more exciting surroundings to the character, even if it is not in the text prompt. The creative option should be even more innovative.
The new version should not mess up the old artistic version, which we all love for the artistic and fairy style. I am sure David Holz and his team will do their best to give us the best of both worlds!
