Summary

Microcosm Challenge: The Wild Week is an initiative for writers to craft and share seven stories over seven days across seven different pubs, designed to be a more intensive and time-efficient alternative to 30-day challenges.

Abstract

The Microcosm Challenge: The Wild Week is a creative writing endeavor that condenses the traditional 30-day writing challenge into a single week. Participants are encouraged to write a story each day for seven days and share them in seven different pubs, which can be both a test of skill and a time-saving option for busy writers. The challenge is presented as a meaty yet manageable task, akin to enjoying a good meatball, and is open to all, regardless of their dietary writing preferences—be it vegetarian or otherwise. Writers are invited to join the "inner circle" of pubs, share their tales, and compile their experiences into a collection post to be celebrated within the Microcosm community. The article also provides resources for writers to find publications that accept flash fiction, suggesting popular tags on Medium and highlighting a list of great publications to hone their skills. This challenge is part of Microcosm’s Greater Challenges, aimed at pushing writers beyond the comfort of weekly prompts to explore more demanding creative terrains.

This is one of Microcosm's Greater Challenges

I’ve seen all these 30-day challenges and they’re great, I’ve done one or two. But these days I’m a little envious because finding the time for them can be daunting. Never mind the actual writing.

So here’s something both meaty and bit-sized. Like a good meatball. Or soyball. I dunno, I’m only 80% vegetarian.

It may be chunky enough for you or perhaps like my other two editors, something you do week in and week out.

But should this pique your interest, you adventurous soul you, then find your pubs, join their inner circle, share your tales and send us a collection post of your travels. We’ll share it with our group and celebrate your success.

So where to try your skills out?

Here are a few places to hock your wares, with hurdles of talent and editorial standards to scale to share your wondrous tale.

Another handy way to find new publications, it to dive into these two tags and see where the most popular stories have been published.

This is another of Micrcosm’s Greater Challenges, for when the weekly prompt becomes humdrum and your writerly talents need a good stretch:

If you thought this was helpful, awesome, inspiring or helped you as a writer, consider supporting Microcosm directly.
We’re building something special.
