Summary

The website content advocates for creating micro-courses over mega-courses, emphasizing the benefits of focusing on solving one problem at a time for better market success and adaptability.

Abstract

The article discusses the concept of micro-courses as a profitable course creation strategy. It contrasts the traditional approach of creating mega-courses that aim to solve all problems within a niche, which are time-consuming and less adaptable to changes, with the micro-course approach. Micro-courses are presented as more efficient, easier to update, and more accessible to customers, leading to repeat business without the need for large-scale launches. The author, Jeff Herring, shares a personal anecdote illustrating the effectiveness of this approach and invites readers to a live session with Cindy Bidar, an expert in creating tiny courses.

Micro or Mega?

One Problem One Solution

In our last episode together you discovered 3 content superpowers. You can still catch that episode here.

Today you’re going to discover why micro is better than mega when it comes to creating courses.

Let’s get started:

I thought of you during a recent conversation at church:

Woman: “You create online courses, right?”

Me: “That’s right.”

Woman: “I’ve been working on a great idea for a course!”

Me: “Great. What problem does is solve?”

Woman: “Oh it solves all the problems in communication. It’s called 101 solutions to communication problems!”

Me: “How may ways do you have complete so far?”

Woman: “47”

Me: “Do you wanna make a little money or a lot of money?”

Woman: “A lot!”

Me: “Then solve one of those 47 problems with one solution!”

Woman: “But I’ve already created almost half of this big course!”

Me: “And you know what the good news is here? You’ve already created 47 courses. Which one shall we start with?”

Woman: “Ohhhhhh!”

Micro or Mega?

You may have noticed there’s a whole bunch of training online about how to create a course. It’s easy to get confused or overwhelmed.

The huge error I see in most of them is teaching people to create a mega-course that solves all the problems of their niche.

One of the things I’ve learned in all these years online is if it looks like everyone is saying go this way, the best thing you can do is go the other way.

Do the opposite of what every one else is doing!

Disadvantages of Mega-Courses

  • Attempt to solve all the problems in a niche
  • Take a long time and a lot of work to create
  • Reliance on big launches
  • When something changes in your niche (and it will!) you’ve got a lot to change
  • Big price tag out of reach of many

Advantages of Mini-Courses

  • Solves one problem with one solution: One Problem One Solution
  • Fast and easy to create
  • Repeat customers means no need for big launches
  • When something changes in your niche it’s easy to change
  • Affordable price tag creates more customers who come back for more

I’ve made the switch from mega to micro and my customers and I love it. You and yours will too.

I’d like to introduce you to friend and colleague Cindy Bidar who has created her own “Tiny Course Empire.” I’m bringing her in this Thursday, March 24th at 2 pm ET to show us how to create our own “tiny courses!” You’re invited to join us here.

If technology cooperates there will be a replay, but it’s so much more fun LIVE!
