Michael Cohen Spoke Out About Former WH Advisor Peter Navarro
The news coverage has said that Peter Navarro has been indicted
Some of the biggest news of the day was that Peter Navarro has been arrested. Navarro was a White House trade adviser for former President Donald Trump. He promoted Trump’s “Big Lie” and was indicted by a federal grand jury on contempt of Congress charges related to the January 6 riots.
Navarro is reportedly outraged that he was handcuffed and arrested by the FBI.
Matthew Chapman wrote a story for RawStory with the title: “Michael Cohen: Peter Navarro has made a terrible mistake — and will go to prison for it.”
Cohen warned Navarro that he is effectively destroying his future for no reason.
You remember Michael Cohen. He was at one time the personal attorney for Trump. Cohen himself served time in prison after he was found to have helped fix hush payments for Trump along with other crimes.
Cohen served as an attorney handling personal affairs for Trump from 2006 to 2018. Cohen was to plead guilty in August 2018 to eight counts including campaign finance violations, tax fraud, and bank fraud. He entered a guilty plea for lying to a Senate committee in November 2018. He was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine. He was released from prison in May 2020 because of COVID concerns and was to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.
After briefly being sent back to prison after being seen at a restaurant, Cohen again received home confinement. His sentence expired in November 2021. He wrote a book about his work for Trump.
Cohen said he would continue to “provide information testimony documents and my full cooperation on all ongoing investigations to ensure that others are held responsible for their dirty deeds and that no one is ever believed to be above the law.” [Wikipedia]
The RawStory report had this from Cohen about Navarro and the issues:
“It’s not real. It’s not legitimate. It’s a lie. Something that Donald is so good at doing. Blatantly lies right to your face and says same lie over and over and over again. For what purpose? Ultimately the lie becomes the truth. That’s what he wants. Peter Navarro is making a terrible mistake. He’ll end up in prison. He’s foolish. One quarter of his life could be in prison. If you’re watching, I hope you are, you don’t want go there. It’s terrible. Removed from your family and friends. They destroy your name, your reputation. All for who? All for what? For Donald Trump? For democracy? To be, the democracy in peril? Seriously. What are you thinking?”
Cohen also tore apart Navarro’s accusations of misconduct against federal officials.
“What legacy do you want to leave to your children, grandchildren and god willing great-grandchildren?” said Cohen. “Not the legacy you’re leaving now. Which he looks like a fool. Oh, my god. Went ahead, picked me up at the airport. It’s unconstitutional. First of all, Peter Navarro is not a lawyer. I don’t think he understands. He has a PhD in economics. Stick to what he knows. What he’s saying now makes him look stupid.”
Cohen must know what he speaks. He was trained as a lawyer and knows the law. He has spent time in prison for his own misdeeds, and he has been disbarred. He cannot practice law any longer, but he has written a book. That may be enough to provide for the needs of himself and his family.
He knows what it means to ruin your own life just for the benefit of someone else. He seems to be trying to warn Navarro not to ruin his life as well by trying to protect someone who does not deserve it.
