“Mexico is the perfect destination for travelers looking for a mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation.” — Anthony Bourdain

Recently, I had the exhilarating experience of flying over Mexico City.

This marked our second visit to the vibrant city in just two years. Since my husband had business to attend to, our family decided to seize the opportunity and rendezvous there for a few days.

As the plane soared above, I marveled at the seemingly endless expanse of suburbs that stretched outward from Mexico City like waves in an ocean.

Mexico City

The metropolitan area itself boasts a staggering population of 21.2 million people, cementing Mexico City’s status as the most populous metropolitan area in the Western Hemisphere.

Per Eater:

“The first thing any visitor to the Mexican capital will take in — probably while staring out the window in awe as their airplane descends over the intense, urbanity-on-steroids sprawl — is the sheer size of this town, 573 square miles in total.”

This vibrant city has a rich and impressive history, recognized for its status as a major financial hub in the region and as the world’s largest Spanish-speaking city.

It is interesting to consider that, despite the high levels of poverty in Mexico, the capital city is one of the wealthiest regions in the country.

This contrast between wealth and poverty adds a unique dimension to the city’s landscape.

In the spirit of capturing the city’s beauty from a unique perspective, I invite you to enjoy these aerial photographs that I had the pleasure of taking.
