Metaphor and Simile
Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
What’s a metaphor? Someone once asked me. I answered with a smile and a simile — So, my friend, while a metaphor is like an open door or a mirror, showing something similar, but not just like and not with the word, like, or as, or anything that stands between the metaphor and what it stands for, a simile shows how things are similar by linking them with like or as… A metaphor is for showing how two or more different things remind you of what they have in common even if all it is is that they rhyme. Or only cost a dime. Or share a spot in a verse that never ends on time.
Thank You, Martin Rushton, for launching us on the adventure of the Never-Ending Poem. Thanks to you and it, we are meeting each other and responding to prompts which hopefully get us thinking and writing outside our usual boxes. All great stuff.
Thank you, Marie T Smith, for tagging me with this prompt, metaphor:
I hereby invite and encourage: Chris Hedges, Marla Bishop, Ryan Frawley, Samantha Lazar, Tony Young, Jr., Susan Brearley, Jenny Justice, Carolyn Riker, Juneta Key, Aikya Param, Charlotte Zobeir Ali, 21stcenturygrio.
Your prompt is ‘’hankering.”
The challenge is to keep this going (and growing)
- write a poetic (any form) response to the prompt
- tag some additional wonderous poets on the platform
- add a new prompt
- feel free to link my poem in, tag me and publish (anywhere, any publication).
And remember to mention Martin Rushton’s Never-Ending Poem as the instigator:
