Mental, Physical, and Emotional health
It’s your business.

It is said that people that are self-employed are the hardest working lot out of all humans. I agree with this thought process for many reasons, and I'm not just saying that because I currently am one.
I am saying that because I can see the burden of responsibility that a self-employed person has in every aspect of their life.
Think about a:
- Landscaper
- House Painter
- Writer
- Artist
- Physical trainer
All of these characters if they own their own business, must not only provide the service, but also grow their client base, buy materials, file taxes, and organize future jobs.
I have taken a lot from the book “Cashflow Quadrants” by Robert Kiyosaki. The reason I say this is because it opened my eyes to the fact that I do not want to be self-employed for my entire existence. The book made me ask some tough questions about why I do what I do in regards to my wealth.
Whether you read this book or not, I think there is a lot of value in becoming emotionally, physically, and mentally healthy, and I think it will allow you to shift yourself from being your own employee to running your own business.
I imagine for you to be in this position of self-employed, you are already fairly self-confident and hard working. You can work your way through most problems your business encounters.
This is where I have gotten trapped.
If you are still putting in the hard yards with your mind, body, and emotions you may be doing a disservice to yourself and the business as a whole.
Your intelligence, willpower, and creativity have gotten you to where you are now. You have carried the entire business on your shoulders. Perhaps, it is now time to shift some of that weight to others, but, how?
What do you do when you first wake up in the morning?
I have come to find that I tend to wake up a bit panicky and stressed, I also find myself unfocused, much more willing to go and stare blankly at numbers on a screen, or scrolling through social media, instead of actually getting the day started.
A wake-up plan like above easily leads to a day full of stress.
The mind is active and jumpy when it arrives back in the body after dreamland.
It is easy to maintain that jumpiness all day if we do not welcome our intelligence into our being.
Awakening, is something magical, it is something that dances in the realm of here and unattainable. So, when we awaken, coming in softly, wiggling your fingers and toes, welcoming the soul back into the body, noticing the breath and softness that is the human, is vital.
I personally adore semi-physical morning routines after getting out of bed as well. Kundalini yoga has helped me overcome addictions and I find it really helpful for awakening, moving, and grounding energy. Check out Kamilla kundalini on youtube for free classes that will blow your mind.
So, why start the day grounded?
When you start your day grounded you feel more clear-minded and creative, you do more thorough work, and you probably pass less time on meaningless endeavors.
Grounding is an under-researched topic in modern science. But according to yogis on Yoga to cope it is beneficial for a plethora of physical reasons such as anti-inflammatory, anti-stress, and can even help the body produce antioxidants.
Efficiency
Grounded is a term that touches on all three aspects, Physically your body is comfortable and in control, spiritually your energy is balanced and neutral, and mentally your thoughts tend toward focused and coherent.
A self-employed person can accomplish the myriad of tasks in a given day without reacting or becoming overly stressed because they are more centered and grounded in their body.
Why does all this spiritual mumbo jumbo matter?
This is a question I could see myself saying a few years ago. I still say it to myself when I'm a grump.
Imagine being so effective at working for yourself, that you create free time, you start creating efficiencies, and developing ways that you can work less and earn the same amount.
- Your creative force comes through and you generate new ideas on the spot.
- You find ways to communicate with employees that empower and educate them to do jobs with less supervision.
- You make good investments that generate more profit
- You make fewer mistakes because you are more in tune with your business and yourself.
- Your employees feel appreciated because you are not coming in stressed.
Soon, you are not working for yourself anymore. Your business is working for you. You have, through your discipline, your morning connection with yourself, and your physical movement created a world where you can spend more time giving and putting your full heart into what and where you want.
