Men Are Not Really “That”Complicated, Are They?

It is often said that men are not that complicated. They know what they want and go after it. However, this simplicity is subjective and does not account for the complexities of the human experience. When men claim that women are complicated, it is often a way of othering and pointing fingers, as they are scared of the complicatedness that they associate with women.

It is important to recognize that life itself is complicated, as are the affairs of the soul. Therefore, it is unfair to accept the notion that men are uncomplicated beings as a universal truth. Men may be simple in that they go after their desires, but they are also calculating and scheming. They may love and support us, but they also have the ability to destroy us, knowing exactly what they need to do to drive us to the points they want us to get.

Men often make us jealous on purpose and play with our hearts, not out of toxic upbringing or household, but out of their own human experience-related complications. It is also not possible to make them desire us; they either do or they do not. Similarly, they either take action based on their desire or do not. This human experience-related complication is what leads to the heartbreak of many women.

As women, our strength lies in our ability to love and hold space for potential partners. We hope to meet them halfway in this space of potential, while men have already cut us short. This fundamental difference often leads to misunderstandings and heartbreak. It is important to recognize that men are not simple creatures, and we must strive for mutual understanding and communication in all our relationships.

Additionally, I think there are some other points to consider that may help explain the mismatch in our understanding of what constitutes complexity.

1. Gender stereotypes: The idea that men are uncomplicated and women are complicated is rooted in gender stereotypes. Society often portrays men as logical and straightforward, while women are depicted as emotional and complex. These stereotypes can limit our understanding of gender and create unrealistic expectations for individuals.
2. Communication differences: Men and women communicate differently, which can lead to misunderstandings and frustrations. Men tend to be more direct and to the point, while women often use more indirect language and cues. These differences in communication styles can contribute to the perception that women are complicated.
3. Cultural differences: Different cultures have varying expectations and attitudes towards gender roles and relationships. For example, in some cultures, men are expected to be dominant and assertive, while women are expected to be submissive and nurturing. These cultural expectations can impact how men and women interact and perceive each other.
4. Power dynamics: Power dynamics can also play a role in the perception that men are uncomplicated. Men are often in positions of power in society, which can give them more agency and control over their lives. Women, on the other hand, may face more barriers and challenges due to systemic sexism and discrimination, which can make their lives more complicated.

For example, women of color may face unique challenges and stereotypes that are different from those faced by white women. Similarly, LGBTQ+ individuals may have different experiences of gender and relationships compared to cisgender individuals.

Movies, TV shows, and other forms of media often perpetuate gender stereotypes and portray unrealistic expectations of relationships. This can contribute to the perception that men are uncomplicated and women are complicated.

Overall, the idea that men are uncomplicated is a myth rooted in gender stereotypes and societal expectations. While men may have different experiences of gender and relationships compared to women, it’s important to recognize the complexities and nuances of individuals and not reduce them to simplistic stereotypes. By challenging these stereotypes and embracing diversity and intersectionality, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society.

It is important to understand that our experiences shape our perspectives and how we view the world around us. As women, our experiences may lead us to view men as complicated beings, while men may see themselves as simple and straightforward. However, the truth lies somewhere in between. Men may be uncomplicated in certain aspects, such as going after what they want, but they are also human and experience their own set of complexities. As individuals, we must strive to understand and respect each other’s experiences and perspectives to create a more compassionate and understanding society. It is through this understanding that we can move beyond gender stereotypes and work towards a more equitable world for all.
