Memory Lane
A poem
I took a stroll down Memory Lane, The weight was heavy on my chest. I stopped to pause many times, But I couldn’t catch my breath.
Photographs and ticket stubs, And petals that had dried, Pressed between tear-stained pages I’d filled those nights I’d cried.
I passed the spots we used to love And I swear they looked the same. You probably wouldn’t recognize them But for me, nothing’s changed.
There’s no speed limit on Memory Lane; I scuff my feet as I round the bend. I’m not ready to say goodbye tonight, Just like I wasn’t then.
Tonight the stars are shining bright As I stroll down Memory Lane. They put the spotlight on the past, On our joys and on my pain.
I’ll take my time and linger here As I’ve done so many times, And then I’ll try to forget this lonely road Until I take this walk again.
