Memory And Ageism

The Special Council investigating President Biden yesterday ruled that he would not prosecute Biden for the mishandling of classified documents when he was Vice President. Robert K. Hur is a former Trump Justice Department official appointed by Attorney General Merrill B. Garland in 2023 to lead the inquiry after files were found in Biden’s garage and home in Delaware. Hur wrote, “We conclude that the evidence does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.” Hur did state that Biden cooperated with the investigation, comparing him to Trump in his similar investigation. The Special Prosecutor said in part, in my mind, a very unnecessary and unkind sentence:

“Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview with him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

The GOP and Trump campaign are already twisting this report to say that Biden is incompetent, “unfit for office.” This makes me furious. Yes, Biden is 80, and probably does not have the best memory. Who does? But he has experience, judgement and common sense. Trump could also be described as an “elderly man with poor memory.”

The only thing different is Trump is far from a sympathetic man. And then some.

Biden is not young, but he is a good president and has done a lot for our country. He has wisdom. And, he has many extremely good people around him. I wish people would stop obsessing about his age. We live in a very ageist culture, unfortunately

This reminds me of what Comey did to Hillary in 2016.
