Memorable After-Dinner Birthday Stroll

September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shadows”

Walking with family keeps me grounded

My son took me out for dinner with friends on my birthday on 27 September. It was a lovely evening. We decided to walk around the area after enjoying a delicious chef’s salad, and French fries (come on, it was my birthday!).

Downtown Riverside around The Mission Inn in Riverside, California is simply gorgeous. I spotted this cute cycle as we leisurely strolled around and immediately noticed its almost perfect shadow. *click!*

I had deep thoughts about how even while traveling and being on the move, time with family keeps me centered and happy. It made me recall my past birthdays when I was invariably out of town. I smiled when I realized I was away from home even on my 60th birthday. I smiled even more because I was with my son, my favoritest person in the world!

In India, 60 is a major age milestone. Fun fact: with married couples — when the husband turns 60, it is celebrated pretty much like a wedding in South India. When the wife turns 60, she’s lucky if her family remembers and wishes her a happy birthday. Hmmmmm.
