Meetings are important for your health
You probably think, what the heck are you talking about? Meetings are boring and not fun to do, right?
Well, I’ll tell you what. I do like meetings. Yes, only when I like the subject and what we have to do, I admit. I think everyone looks like meeting this way. But I do really love it actually. Why do you ask? Well, I can participate in projects I truly believe it’ll work and I love to do. So I can pure my heart out in what I love to do. You can talk about how a certain event has to be like.
You’re not alone to do the task. I do like to participate in meetings, as I said earlier. I like to brainstorm about the ideas I have and I want others to know. You can pitch to others who are interested in it as well. When I’m in a meeting, I also have to say my opinions about a certain subject or when I was an orchestra parent I had to talk about how the children were doing and if I had any concerns. In this year we have a jubilee to celebrate and I am in the committee.
I love talking about the ideas that we eventuyally bring it to life.
I’m in the rehearsal weekend group of my own orchestra as well and we talked where to stay and what the activities will be during the days.
In the past, I’ve been groups of how to be sustainable in my borough. How can we take people action to be more sustainable? That’s what we talked about during the meetings.
I have been on boards a lot and in those time I have lots of experience how to participate in meetings.
Participating in a meeting is good for your health
I also believe that participating in meetings will be good for your health.
I’ll tell you why I think it’s good for your health.
When you’re in a meeting you can ‘pitch’ your idea about the subject you like or you think it’s important to pitch and tell what you think about that certain subject. You’ve been heard by your boss, colleagues and so on. People listened to what you’ve had in mind. Maybe the idea must be in another form to get the idea done. Maybe others want to follow you along with your idea and make it happen. When you don’t pitch your idea, you’ll never know.
That’s I think called an ego-booster: proud you give your voice, proud you went through the door and told what you wanted to tell and want to do with your pitch, proud you told yourself just do it otherwise it never ever will happen. Not that everyone agrees with your pitch, but at least they heard what you wanted to say. Maybe you’re shy and don’t have the courage to do so, but I am sure there are tools for getting what you want (maybe your boss wants to pay for a course to stand up for yourself?). Maybe you’re a listener, that’s fine too. I was in the beginning too. But somehow I managed to say when I thought something had to be said. And eventually, I truly liked to say something. In the beginning, I thought I said something stupid, but others actually listened to me. They didn’t agree, but they listened. That part: listened to and to be heard by others felt amazing for me. It gave me an ego-boost. Normally I’m not like that but hideaway for everything that seems to be positive (I have been through too much).
Self-worth
Being in a meeting gives you self-worth as well. You can tell yourself you can do it if you did the pitch. You don’t have to be shy, although people are sometimes and that is normal. Some people are shy and don’t dare to be on stage or speak in front of a group of people. There are tools for it.
And just because you did, you have to be proud be proud of yourself.
What are the effects (positively) when you’re participating in these meetings:
- Your ego is boosting
- Your self-worth is growing
- You’ve been heard
- Your idea could be getting into actions
