Meet Prasanna — Let Me Reintroduce Myself

Anatomy of My Acronym

I don’t usually participate in challenges and prompts because I often don’t get invited.

Just kidding.

But seriously, I don’t feel comfortable following a challenge or prompt. And I’m afraid to tag people in my posts without a valid reason. However, when Yana tagged me for this challenge, I eagerly grabbed that chance because it facilitated an opportunity to introduce myself properly. So here we go.

Decoding my name — PRASANNA

Pleasing Responsive Attentive Selective Adoptable Neutral Nostalgic Authentic

WHO does your acronym say you are?

My name is Prasanna Srinath Subhasinghe (In case you didn’t notice, I recently changed my display name from Subhasinghe SPS). The name Prasanna means Pleasing in my native language. So I had to include it. I sincerely believe that I am not a bad person to meet.

Better read this post about name structure for further details.

I like to introduce myself as Responsive and Attentive. I am also Selective about my choices and Adaptable according to situations. I prefer to be Neutral rather than follow an extreme end. Finally, I love Nostalgic memories and want to be Authentic in my work.

WHAT genre(s) do you write across or your stance on writing?

First, I didn’t have a clear direction. But later, I tried to adopt a storytelling approach to tell stories about memories, myths, folklore, and historical elements. In addition to that, I am experimenting with my poetry skill in English.

WHEN did you start writing on Medium?

I used to write even as a kid. But I started writing on a platform during my university time. I used the Google Blogspot platform to write in my native language. Writing on Medium started more recently, in February of this year.

WHERE do you write from in the real world?

I live in an island country called Sri Lanka. It is located at the southern tip of India. My hometown is Kurunegala, about a 02-hour distance from the capital. I live on our family land with my wife and parents. Yeah! We are a traditional family.

HOW do you write? Showcase your process

It all starts with a trigger, most of the time something very small. But it helps to bring back a memory. When a memory or incident comes to me, I can write about it in one sitting. While writing, I can recall further details, strengthening the content.

After the writing, I clarify the content by referring to different sources. However, the hardest part is editing. I prefer to follow my own writing style, but Grammarly doesn’t allow me to do that. Yet I can’t completely abandon it since my posts need thorough proofing. So to find a balance, I have to spend a lot of time, often more than writing the post itself.

WHY did you choose to write on/and or continue to remain on Medium?

Writing is my hobby, and the possibility of earning something while engaging in my hobby is a dream come true. After the decline in popularity of Google Blogspot, I tried to start my own website. However, without an audience, it became a tiresome task.

On the other hand, writing on Medium is fun. With its already available audience, writing on Medium has become more than a hobby. With this beautiful community, I have to ask, why not Medium?

I like to make an invitation to all my friends who are dear to me. But I am afraid to do that due to my phobia of tagging. However, I am genuinely interested in getting to know all of you beyond the typical ‘About Me.’ Therefore, I would like to extend a special invitation to each of my regular visiting friends to tell us about yourself, considering this a personal invitation.
