Meet Burk From Two Decades Ago
Historic insights. Never seen before.

An hour ago, I was sitting in the car when a song popped up on my Apple Music playlist. It instantly brought me back 20 years ago. That song was Can’t Stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, my favorite band back then in 2002.
This got me thinking.
Here on Medium, we should do some throwback stories to our teenage years, whenever they may have been. Are you in? (Pop quiz: Which popular band from the 2000s had a song titled “Are you in”?)
I was born in the late 80s. I grew up in the 90s, and I was heavily shaped by the culture, style, events, and life of the early 2000s. My teenage years.
Good and bad memories. Mostly good.
This is me. I must have been around 15 years old. Hilarious picture.

Notice the Red Hot Chili Peppers patch? I wasn’t lying. Huge RHCP fan back then.
Also, can we appreciate the stylish, handmade, bi-colored denim pants? With holes and rips all over, sort of mandatory for 2000s teenagers. I was cool.
I was in that awkward stage of growing my hair out too, as all the cool kids did back then. No really, we were cool. Shut up!
I was probably listening to RHCP on the brand-new disc man that I carried around in my absurdly large backpack that also had holes all over.
Of course, I was wearing a Casio watch as well. Mandatory and still stylish in 2022.
That was me 20 years ago. Historic.
That song in the car also got me thinking about another thing: I should do a regular throwback post on 2000s music. And maybe more. Just a short story with fun memories and a few links to songs or video clips.
What do you think? Are you in? (The band with that song was Incubus, by the way.)
