Summary

Medium's new 'Listen' feature is praised for its impressive pronunciation and comedic effect when using colloquial language.

Abstract

The author of the article expresses amusement and appreciation for Medium's new 'Listen' feature, which reads articles aloud. The feature is noted for its accurate pronunciation of names and places, as well as its natural-sounding cadences. However, the author found particular humor in hearing a robotic American voice attempt to articulate British colloquialisms like 'bloody,' suggesting that the contrast between the formal tone of the voice and the informal language was quite entertaining. The author contemplates using more swear words or humorous terms to further enjoy the feature's limitations. Recommendations are made to listen to specific articles by Jaja Requa and Jason for similar amusement.

Medium’s New ‘Listen’ Feature Is Awesome

Here’s why

I just had a chuckle when I tested Medium’s new ‘Listen’ feature today. I’d tried initially on another author’s post, then I thought I’d see how one of my articles sounded.

I was actually impressed with pronunciations of names and places — even the cadences of voice — then I got to the sentence on I bloody love the subject,’ and couldn’t help but LOL 😆.

Hearing a slightly robotic American guy saying ‘bloody’ was too good.

I might up the swear word ante just to hear him say it. Or maybe throw in a few snigger words like ‘flange,’ ‘boobs,’ or ‘willy.’

Aren’t I grown up?

Until, then, try listening to Jaja Requa’s poem, or this one by Jason for more laughs.
