Medium Writers: Donate Your May Earnings to Help the Black Lives Matter Movement
It’s the least we can do.
It’s the beginning of a new month, which means Medium writers get paid.
It is common knowledge that only about 7% of Medium writers earn over $100 a month from their articles. Most of us are not raking in the cash each month and most of us aren’t doing it for the cash either. Most Medium writers write because they enjoy it, it is a passion and hobby. This is not our full-time job. Because of that, whatever we earn is just an added bonus.
In these tumultuous times, it is important to take action. We cannot sit back and ignore the problem. There is systemic racism in our country, and we need to do something about it.
There are many ways you can help the cause like educating yourself, speaking out, signing petitions, protesting, and donating.
There are so many organizations that could use our help.
So, I challenge all Medium writers to donate their May earnings.
For most of us, it is not much and that is okay. I joined Medium a week and a half into May, so I haven’t even been writing on here for a month. I made $21.35 for the month of May. I will be donating all of it.
Since 93% of us are not making over $100 a month of Medium, it isn’t asking for much. Again, for most of us, this is not our full-time job and any money we make from Medium is just extra. Although I understand that due to the pandemic, there has been a lot of job loss and there are many people struggling. So, if you are able, I urge you to donate.
Even if you only made $3 in May from Medium, anything is better than nothing. If one hundred writers donate just $3, it will make a difference — it all adds up.
