Finally, Indian writers can have a moment in the Sun. Sigh!

After a long wait of two months which felt like an eternity, Medium has finally started to roll out its Partner Program from 15th September.

The rollout has been gradual in every sense of the word. But we aren’t complaining! Are we?

Medium has a large contingent of Indian writers who will now bear the fruits of their writing.

“MPP is finally here!”

This is the text I received a week back when a friend of mine was able to apply for it. He was over the eleventh heaven would be an understatement!

I was pleasantly surprised as I wasn't expecting the rollout to begin soon due to the administrative and taxation hurdles our country is plagued with.

My moment

Today evening when I opened Medium the first thing on my mind was to check if I was eligible for applying to MPP.

To my disappointment, it still showed that I was in an ineligible country but I was still able to link my Medium to Stripe!

I was perplexed. I unsuccessfully tried to recall if this was possible before. The answer was a reluctant ‘No’. Something seemed off!

However, I went with the flow and set up my Stripe profile (it takes a few minutes and it's a bit complex too).

As soon as the linking process was completed, an Error 404 popup disrupted my flow!

“Alas, how can something good happen to Rohit without some Drama!”

To my surprise, when I reloaded the page the ‘apply to MPP’ was missing from its place in the dropdown and had shifted to the top half of the table.

It took me to the ‘Your Partner Program Earnings’ page! First things first I looked for something with ‘ineligible..’ in red.

Found nothing and ecstacy followed. I realized that I had become a Partner Program member!

Finally, we had made it. Not that I had earned it but I was happy anyway, for myself and so many creators out there who had put their hours into writing on Medium!

I quickly went to write a dummy article and while publishing I found the Paywall option. And this just made my day :)
