Summary

The author of a Medium article is experiencing an issue where their claps on stories are not being registered upon revisiting, and they have noticed stories with comments but no claps, which seems illogical as clapping is a common way to show support alongside reading and commenting.

Abstract

The Medium user begins their day by engaging with content on the platform through reading, clapping, and commenting. They have recently observed that their claps, which are a form of appreciation for authors' work, are not showing up when they revisit the stories. This issue has led the user to clap multiple times for the same content. The user also points out the anomaly of stories having comments but no recorded claps, which they find unusual since most users typically engage with content by both clapping and commenting. The user values clapping as a means to express the impact of an author's writing and as a way to support them beyond just reading and commenting. Unsure if this is a widespread issue or a technical glitch, the user seeks confirmation from others who might have encountered the same problem and invites them to share their experiences.

Opinions

  • The author places significant value on the act of clapping on Medium as a form of support and feedback for writers.
  • There is a concern that a technical issue or delay might be causing the claps to not register properly, leading to potential underrepresentation of reader engagement.
  • The user is puzzled by the discrepancy between the number of comments and the lack of claps on some stories, suggesting that clapping is an integral part of the engagement process on Medium.
  • The user encourages others to acknowledge the issue if they have experienced it, indicating a desire for community awareness and a potential fix from Medium.
  • The author concludes with a call to action, inviting readers to upgrade their Medium membership, which would also support the author financially.

Medium My Dear Where Did My Claps Go?

Have you noticed anything?

My day begins with reading, clapping, and commenting on stories. I enjoy interacting with different authors and reading their pieces. Over the past few days, I have realized that when I return to an author’s page, my claps for their previous stories aren’t being registered. As a result, I clap again. I also see stories with a number of comments, but no claps. That doesn’t make any sense. Most of us clap and comment.

Some may not find value in clapping. I find value in it. It is my way of showing the author how much I loved their writing or how much their piece resonated with me. This is how I support them in addition to reading and commenting.

I am not sure if anyone else has noticed it. May there is a delay or a glitch in the system. If you have, do share?

Thanks for reading. Your time is always appreciated.
