There are more benefits to using Medium rather than your own blog

Medium was initially created for independent writers who wanted to make money from their content. Over time their user base has quickly grown.

With more than 60 million active users, Medium is certainly the go-to platform for all keen bloggers. The website allows writers to make passive income and be featured in a variety of publications of niche topics for their avid readers.

Through the success of Medium, many writers and now even several startups have made the move from the use of their website blog to Medium as their main channel of communication.

Medium has many benefits to using the platform rather than a self-hosted domain.

Here are 4 reasons I’ve decided to stick with Medium over a personal blog.

You can start writing instantaneously — being user-friendly, Medium allows you to focus on writing rather than any technical issues that you may face with your own personal blog. Why spend hours setting up your domain, when Medium is waiting for you.

Community:

The readers on Medium are there to support you and any other dedicated writer. Having readers highlight any key points in my articles and clap if they think it’s any good, really does motivate me to keep going. Medium make it easy for you to connect with your readers by being able to comment or send a private message.

Medium Partner Program:

Getting cash is not the main reason I use Medium for writing but of course, it makes me smile when I refresh my stats each morning and see some of my articles have made me money.

Traffic:

I’ve realised that the more I write, the more traffic it brings to my page. My followers have doubled during the past two weeks just from constantly writing, every day.

Which one is best for you?

Of course, it’s up to you to make this decision and it depends on the reason for your writing and personal interests too. I do keep my blog up to date but much prefer writing on Medium.
