A recap of my Partner Program Earnings in December
Making money on Medium isn’t easy. It requires a lot of time and dedication. However, the introduction of the Friend of Medium (FOM) program has made it easier for writers to earn more money compared to the previous system. I made the upgrade as soon as it became available in late November, and I’ve noticed a major difference in my earnings.
I know that FOM technically doesn’t earn me more. It’s designed to help support others whenever I read their articles by giving them a major increase (4 times more) compared to someone with a regular membership. I enjoy helping out other writers while still experiencing the benefits myself.
More than 90% of the writers are used to earning peanuts since Medium has been around, and it’s nice to actually make some money now. Hopefully, it’s not temporary!
What Did I Earn in December on Medium? $347.18
I finished the month of December by earning $347.18. I earned more than five times my earnings in November, which was only $65. I believe one of the biggest reasons for the drastic increase is that more people joined FOM, which skyrocketed my earnings.
I also spend a lot of time reading and interacting with others. If I had to guess, I would say I spend 95% of my time engaging with others and only 5% writing on Medium. Building a community takes time, but it’s a great way to meet others and learn about various topics while reaching more people.

You can see that anything about Medium is extremely popular. Topics about writing are also well-received due to my audience being mostly writers. I still enjoy writing about other topics, but I don't expect them to be big earners.
Final Thoughts
I try not to put too high expectations on earnings. Anything can happen, and I don’t have much control over it. However, making nearly $350 is a nice surprise that I would never have expected even a month ago. Will these earnings be similar in January? Will they drastically go up or down? Who really knows? Either way, I’m thankful for the change, and I hope others are also experiencing an increase in monthly earnings.
