Winners to be announced on August 12th, Medium Day!

If you don’t yet write for us at The Narrative Arc, we strongly encourage you to drop a note at [email protected] and request to be added. Link to at least one memoir or narrative you’ve written, so we can make sure you’re not a ‘love bot’! We’ll check about once a week, so don’t tap our shoulders, k? Thanks! We’ll get you in if it’s a good love match.

Love in all its manifestations

The big one that got away.

The unrequited passion you have for the guy at the grocery store.

A relationship with someone who lives far, far away.

The person you’ll never get over — although you try.

Love is grand, and love is messy, and love is complicated. And that’s why we’re inviting you to write a love story for our summer writing competition.

Here are the rules

You may enter two stories. Tag your story Summer Love, and then choose other topics: relationships, love, this happened to me, personal essay. All the usual suspects. We’d love you to make one topic The Narrative Arc.

Your story must be a minimum of three minutes and a maximum of seven minutes.

Don’t recycle old stories already published, although if you have a great story and you can retell it in some amazing way, by all means.

The deadline for your love stories is a firm August 1st, 2023, by noon Pacific time. Thanks!

We’re talking love between two people, or if you’re poly, that’s fine too

Also, I respect if you don’t ‘do’ relationships, but this is a writing competition that challenges you to write a love story. Not an anti-love story! Be creative, and show us something amazing.

Imagery, passion, pacing, reflection, we want it all.

We’re looking for romantic love stories. Yes, we know you love your dogs and cats. We did those stories last month, remember?

This will be ‘people’ love — the kind that makes your heart race. It can be a current love story, or it can be something that happened long ago.

You know your story. Tell us. Be brave, be courageous, and write like no one is judging you.

We will NOT judge you, as long as you’re within the confines of the law

You know what I mean.

We’ll announce winners on Medium Day August 12th and make you a celebrity!

Cash prizes will include our typical.

$50 grand prize

$30 second prize

$20 third prize

And all the honorable mentions we deem appropriate.

Now show us your ‘big, big love,’ and here’s k.d.lang & the Reclines to get you in the mood.

Have fun, and show us your love! Love from the nine of us at Parasol Pubs.
