Meditating is Also (Sitting on Concrete)
A Poem: On the 10th Day of Testing Positive for Covid

meditating is also sitting
on concrete by river & two freeways
herons & the marmalade sunset cycles rev & trailers roar
there is also the
musty aliveness of summoning words &
culminating breaths lungs full, even with virus
but I can walk now here to the edge
& I can sit, for a minute
Since my debilitating episode in November, I’ve had to learn to walk again. It was an odd thing — to feel mobile, finally, for the first time in months — but to also know that I had the virus inside my lungs that was slowing me down.
But I made it to the river’s edge. I even crossed my legs, which is a position I haven’t been able to hold without pain since September.
I closed my eyes and felt my tired lungs fill with the moment.
