Me vs. My Air Fryer — Let’s See Who Finishes First!
In 45 minutes or less, who gets the job done.
I have been loving my air fryer. It is a gift from my niece. When I first heard of air fryers years ago, I felt it is a fancy convection oven, and they are the same.
But when my air fryer arrived, it was the best thing that happened to me as a writer. I have to tell you why, but first, let us put the timer to 45 minutes… Yes, I am roasting chicken.
When I write, especially if I am in the zone. It is me and coffee most of the time. I get by, and I can get by without eating.
Preparing a meal for one can be time-consuming, between thinking about what to cook, the preparation, and the actual cooking.
I am grateful for every meal. Let me be very clear about it, but cooking is such a bad idea when writing. How many times did I end up leaving the stove? Yikes!
Let Us put the Air Fryer to the test — Double Down a Writing Challenge.

I set the timer on the air fryer for 45 minutes. I know that is about the time it needs to roast a chicken. I put my timer on my iPhone for the same amount of time.
I haven’t finished a story or article in 45 minutes. The shortest I have done is 1 hour from writing to submission to a publication.
No pressure, but I am competitive; I will not surrender. I am the best writer there is. I only say that to humor myself.
Let me tell you more about air fryers.
1. How to choose the best air fryer for your kitchen.
If you’re thinking of buying an air fryer, you’ll need to figure out what size you need. In my opinion, this is where size doesn’t matter. The smaller, the better it fits. The reason you are getting an air fryer and not a convection oven is partly to save space.
This means the food can cook more evenly by spreading out over the entire surface. The larger air fryers also consume more electricity. You don’t want to be cooking three pieces of hotdog in an air fryer big enough to cook a dozen, right?
Go with the smaller air fryer!
2. The difference between an air fryer and a convection oven.
The most basic difference between an air fryer and a convection oven is how they cook.
Air fryers use hot air for cooking food, while convection ovens use a combination of hot air and circulating hot air.
On the surface, they look alike, but there are a few differences. If the price starts to get you skeptical, a quick rundown of the differences might dissuade you.
But for comparison’s sake, let’s review what a convection oven covers and what an air fryer doesn’t.
Convection ovens are more expensive than air fryers, but a basic model can quickly run around the exact cost, making the pick a little more challenging.
Convection oven pros
- Large capacity: Because they are bigger, they can cook food good for more than one serving.
- Good versatility: They usually come with different cooking functions like roasting, steaming, broiling, air drying, and dehydrating — all in one appliance.
- Easy to clean.
Convection oven cons
- Convection ovens are “permanent” fixtures. They occupy your kitchen countertop.
3. The benefits of cooking with an air fryer: it’s fast, easy, and healthful.
Air fryers use a hot air circulation system for cooking food quickly so that you can have restaurant-quality fried chicken in your home in less than half the time. Should I say half the price too?
Air fryers heat food with hot air rather than with oil so that you can enjoy fried foods without the added fat.
Once the food is cooked, it’s crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Fryers work by circulating warm air across a hot surface.
Your dish is in the center of a rotating chamber that will act as an oven or what’s known as a dual-stage convection oven.
This circulation creates pressure that cooks food without transferring it to a fire or direct flame.
Some air fryers are more advanced than others.
Who Won the Challenge?
I have to give it to the air fryer, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. I was right. It took 45 minutes to have it perfectly cooked, brown on the outside, soft on the inside.
Now that you know more about the air fryer, you can put it to good use in your home! You can get healthier food quickly and easily with this appliance, and it’s a great addition to any kitchen!
The air fryer is gaining popularity, and for a good reason! It’s a great way to get healthier food without using a ton of oil or a frying pan.
I finished the first draft in 45 minutes… but let me enjoy my chicken dinner first before I edit this story. Look at my nicely air-fryered chicken:)
