Maybe It’s Time To Give Up?

Getting in shape, getting fit, or just getting healthy isn’t just a fad or a thing, it’s an actual lifestyle.

When you see people who look great, or eat healthy, have you ever said something like “wow, look at that person, I wish I could be more like that.”

Most people have probably said something like that in the past, right? We wish we could look like that, we wish we could be that healthy, but then something inside of us, usually subconsciously, prevents us from doing it. Then, we go and pick up fast food drive through, or lay on the couch and just keep on doing what we’ve always done.

Believe it or not, we ALL have what it takes to be healthy. Now, and I’ll give you this, we may not all have the genetic makeup to be that James Bond guy coming out of the water in his swim trunks, or that new Magazine cover girl, but we certainly can be healthier than we are, right? We can do things that make our heart stronger, we can do things that help us lose weight, we can do things to make us stronger….but the question is, are you willing to do it?

But Andrew, you don’t understand, I’m just not built that way, I’ve tried to be healthy but it just doesn’t work for me.

Huh? Doesn’t work for you? I’ve heard this before and I just don’t get it. What doesn’t work? Being healthy? Really? REALLY?

Most people in this world, and I don’t care what skin color, what religion, what nationality, what beliefs, whatever….have a CHOICE to be healthy or unhealthy.

I’ll admit, in today’s world, it’s easier to be unhealthy rather than healthy. It’s easier to be unfit than fit. And NO, it DOES NOT boil down to being lazy or not. I know a LOT of people who when describing them, the word lazy does not belong in that description, are just, plain and simply, unhealthy.

Here is my philosophy and breakdown of healthy and fit. I know I’ll get emails saying how I’m not right with this, but it’s my way of looking at it, ok? If it makes sense, great. If not, I’m sure you’ll know what I mean.

Being fit is more of the physical side of things, being healthy is more of the nutrition side of things. Of course, ideally you would want a combination of both, but that’s for a later topic.

That being said, it may be time for you to give up. If you want to be healthy, you may need to just give up. You may need to give up that fast food. You may need to give up the sodas. You may need to give up the late night ice cream.

If you want to be fit, you may need to give up the couch surfing TV watching. You may need to give up the escalator. You may need to give up that close parking spot at the store.

But Andrew, like I said, I tried that stuff and it just doesn’t work for me. It’s difficult for me to do those things in my situation. {I’ll say this in my best teenager imitation}….DUH!

Of course if you just try it, it won’t work. What I’m talking about is a lifestyle change. Remember at the beginning when I mentioned something about wishing we could be like that person? Guess what, that person just didn’t “try” to do something, they gave up something in order to become THAT PERSON! Get it?

So, and I know this may sound strange when reading this, but really think about what I’m saying here, when you really want something, you’ll have to give up something else to get it.

And, I’m not just talking about health and fitness either. This is true for all walks of life, in just about any situation.

You may need to dig deep and really think about what this article is all about and IF it applies to your current life and situation.

If it does, what are you going to do about it?

Just something to think about.
