Summary

The undefined website presents a monthly writing challenge for May, inviting writers to engage with daily prompts and a supportive community.

Abstract

The undefined website introduces the "May Mania" writing challenge, a month-long event designed to inspire writers from around the world to pen their thoughts on a variety of topics. Participants are encouraged to write daily, with a flexible approach allowing for 'dippers' who may not contribute every day. The challenge emphasizes community, with the goal of connecting writers and providing a platform for their voices to be heard. The prompts for May cover a wide range of subjects, from personal experiences and opinions to creative exercises, with a 500-word limit for responses. Writers are also invited to engage with each other's work and tag the challenge organizer in their responses.

Opinions

  • The challenge organizer, self-described as the "PROMpt Queen," values the habit of daily writing and the connections formed within the writing community.
  • The organizer acknowledges the difficulty of committing to daily writing and thus accommodates 'dippers' who participate intermittently.
  • Engagement with other writers' responses is encouraged, highlighting the importance of community support and interaction.
  • The prompts are designed to be open to interpretation, allowing writers to express themselves creatively and authentically.
  • The challenge is seen as a way to hone writing skills, increase visibility, and find one's 'clan' or community within the broader landscape of writers on Medium.
  • The organizer expresses a playful and inclusive attitude, as evidenced by the light-hearted nature of some prompts and the open invitation to all types of writers, regardless of their level of commitment or experience.

Well, well, well… here we are again. For those of you crazy enough to return, welcome back.

For those of you new here, welcome to this bizarre culmination of writers from all over the world.

Who use Medium for good not evil.

You may find yourself wondering whether or not you can commit to an entire month of prompts. To form the habit of writing every day requires great discipline, but more than that, it requires great people waiting expectantly to read your responses.

I started these monthly challenges back in January and since then they have helped many writers hone their skills, get their writing out there and their voices heard. More importantly, being a part of my clan / crew/ gang / cult, call it what you want, means you will find your people.

It’s totally fine if you can’t commit to a whole month. Some days are a struggle, even for me, the PROMpt Queen. This is why I also permit dippers.

dipper noun:

a dipper is one who enjoys the idea of a challenge but cannot possibly sustain the habit of writing every single day; a dipper may choose to dip in and out of the prompts when inspiration calls or time permits.

I will, however, apply one stipulation to dippers. The best thing for me (and I’m sure other challengers) has been connecting with other writers. If you dip into a prompt, I encourage you to read one or two responses from other challengers.

So whether you’re a dipper, dabbler or seasoned veteran, here are the prompts for May.

There’s a limit of 500 words but you can interpret the topics any way you like. Leave me a comment on this post if you’re up for the challenge and don’t forget to tag me in your responses.
