Mastering the Art of Writing on Medium: Tips and Tricks for Success
Writing on Medium is a unique experience that requires a different approach than other writing platforms, but with some helpful tips, anyone can find success.

Write Consistently
Writing on Medium can be a great way to build your brand, establish yourself as an expert in your field, and connect with readers all over the world. However, in order to reap the benefits of publishing on Medium, it’s important to be consistent with your writing.
So, how can you stay motivated and consistently produce high-quality articles on Medium? Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Set a writing schedule: Block out time in your calendar each week specifically for writing on Medium. Treat it like any other appointment and commit to showing up, even if you don’t feel inspired in the moment.
- Brainstorm topics in advance: Keep a running list of potential article topics, so you always have a bank of ideas to draw from when it’s time to write.
- Break your writing into manageable chunks: If the idea of writing a full article feels overwhelming, break it into smaller sections and tackle one at a time. For example, you might start with an outline, then work on the introduction, then tackle the body of the article.
- Find an accountability partner: Partner up with a friend or colleague who is also writing on Medium, and commit to checking in with each other regularly to share progress and offer support.
- Celebrate your wins: When you hit a milestone, such as reaching a certain number of followers or getting published in a publication, take the time to celebrate your success. This can help keep you motivated and inspired to keep writing.
Finally remember to check over your article before hitting publish, you don’t want to accidentally publish an article with the tittle “Gammer is Important”. (or whatever mistakes ther are in this article…)
When it comes to publishing on Medium, one of the best ways to get your articles in front of a wider audience is by sharing them on social media.
Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn can be a great way to attract new readers and build your following on Medium.
So, how can you make the most of social media when sharing your Medium articles?
- Share across multiple platforms: Don’t limit yourself to just one social media platform. Share your articles across all of your social media accounts to reach the widest possible audience.
- Use visuals: Social media posts with visuals tend to get more engagement than those without. Include an eye-catching image or graphic to make your post stand out.
- Write a compelling headline: Your social media post should include a headline that grabs the reader’s attention and entices them to click through to your article.
- Include a call to action: Encourage your followers to read your article by including a call to action in your social media post. For example, “Check out my latest article on Medium about [topic] — you won’t want to miss this!”
- Engage with your followers: Once you’ve shared your article on social media, be sure to engage with your followers who comment or share your post. This can help build relationships with your audience and increase your visibility on social media.
But remember to be careful what you post, you don’t want an incident where you accidently link to an article about wild nights out when you meant to link to your health blog.
Although we know “health bloggers” have had their share of wild nights, it may not gel with the expected audience. (at least not until after posting about the wobbling between health and fun.)
Use (and optimise) Tags
When it comes to publishing on Medium, one of the helpful thing you can do is to utilize tags effectively.
Tags are essentially keywords that you can assign to your article to help it appear in relevant search results and topic feeds. They’re also a great way to help potential readers discover your work.
So, how can you make the most of tags on Medium? Here are 5 tips to get you started:
- Choose relevant tags: The most important thing to keep in mind when using tags on Medium is to choose tags that are relevant to your article. This will help ensure that your article appears in searches and topic feeds that are related to your niche. Avoid using tags that are too broad or vague, as this can actually hurt your visibility.
- Use multiple tags: Medium allows you to use up to five tags per article, so take advantage of this! Using multiple tags can help your article appear in more search results and topic feeds, increasing its visibility.
- Mix it up: Don’t use the same tags over and over again. Mix up your tags to reach new audiences and expand your reach.
- Research tags: Do some research to find out what tags are popular in your niche. You can use tools like Google Trends or Keyword Planner to find relevant tags.
- Test and tweak: Keep track of which tags are working well for you and which ones aren’t. Tweak your tags as necessary to optimize your visibility.
You don’t want to end up like the writers who used what they thought were innocent tags for their totally innocent stories only to find out that they were being used to circumvent censorship and their article appeared in searches intended to be very NSFW.
Although I guess that is one way to find a completely new audience.
