Mars Landing and Next Vacation Destination
Holidays on Mars could be a real possibility sooner than you think
There is a popular song “A Dreamer’s Holiday”, by Perry Como which includes a verse about a holiday on Jupiter and Mars, was it prophetic?
“Rainbow candy bars,
You’ll be livin’ a la mode,
On Jupiter and Mars,
On a dreamer’s holiday!”
Mars has always fascinated scientists since the 1960s. Writers have been intrigued by the solitary world. The best books on Mars for fans of the Red Planet are Buzz Aldrin’s “Welcome to Mars” and Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles”.
A few great movies were also made about the Red Planet, such as “Martian”, “Mission to Mars”, “John Carter”, “Ad Astra”, “The Space Between Us”, “The Last Days on Mars”, “Red Planet” and “Total Recall”.
February 18th, 2021 was a special day, it could be called Mars Day, as it was the day on which NASA’s $2.7 Billion dollar rover, called “Perseverance” landed on Mars. The craft landed in the Jezero crater just 3.5 meters away from dangerous rock formations and boulders.
The Jezero crater is of special significance and it shows a number of habitable environments, in which life could have thrived billions of years ago. Approximately 3.8 billion years ago a thicker and warmer Martian atmosphere allowed water to flow on the surface of the planet.
The rover will collect Martian soil samples to study them for signs of life that could be preserved in fossilized microbial mats. Life could also be found in delta deposits and in hypothermal springs.
Would this mean that the “Mars One” project will become a reality someday? The Mars One Project, started by the Mars One Foundation, will establish the first human settlement on Mars.
If within the next ten years, space travel is possible, would you go for your winter vacation to the holiday resorts on the Mars settlement? Would you prefer setting up a home on the Red Planet permanently? Only time will tell, as the planet waits for its first Martians to arrive from Earth.
