ONE-CITY-PER-DAY CHALLENGE
Marrakech, Marocco
Colorful crafts
Colors everywhere.
In the zelliges, the carpets, babouches, and other handicrafts.
As we negotiated the purchase of a carpet directly with the Berbers, we were amazed to learn how they negotiated. It’s a three-step process: the seller writes down a first price on a piece of paper, then the buyer has to write another one underneath, and this three times to try and converge on a price that satisfies both buyer and seller. If not, the purchase doesn’t go ahead.
We found this rather honest.
In the magnificent Jardin Majorelle, designed by the French artist, Jacques Majorelle (1886–1962).
Majorelle fell in love with the vibrant colors and street life of Marrakech, as we did, but we didn’t design such a wonder! This blue, contrasting with this lush greenery is mesmerizing.
To visit absolutely!
