Marketing Questions That Keep Bugging Me

Why does it feel that there’s no escape?

I am sure you are constantly listening to certain statements and questions regarding your work online that, although they are imperative you answer or solve if you want your business to shine, deeply annoy you.

They annoy you so much, they even make you doubt your original idea.

But in order to succeed you feel obliged to follow all those steps.

Who am I to doubt those who have made it before me and are now earning 6 figures?

Maybe, the fact that we are all different should be enough to at least try to create your own recipe for success rather than blindly following others.

These are some of the questions that keep diluting my brain:

  1. How can Marketing be an expression of your creativity and knowledge?
  2. Who would be your dream client to work with?
  3. What do they struggle with?
  4. What are their deepest fears?
  5. How can you solve those problems?
  6. Why are you the perfect person to solve them?
  7. What is your favourite way to communicate with your people?
  8. What lights you up?

After reading this list of questions you probably feel like I do, answering “I don’t know” to most of them.

Who am I to try to be in other people’s heads? I have enough trying to figure out my own sometimes, never mind what goes on in the brains of others.

As humans, we are constantly changing our minds about what we think we need; one day we are super certain about which direction to go and the next month we are shredding the idea into pieces and starting all over again.

Recommendations from successful online creators:

  1. Don’t wait for the perfect idea
  2. Making mistakes is normal, you will not know if you don’t try
  3. Keep reading
  4. Keep a notebook
  5. Keep at it
  6. Borrow good ideas and make them your own
  7. Revisit your story with fresh eyes
  8. Get moving if you’re struggling

As a good learner and someone who wants to succeed by following those who made it there before you, you follow all the steps. You answer all the questions. Some of them take you months to work through.

At the end of all those tasks, you have forgotten who you are and why you were there in the first place.

The necessary evil

In the same way that we don’t really question our lecturers at university, we probably shouldn’t question those who we choose as mentors.

Maybe we should just get on with it. I don’t really have the answers. I only have questions.

The fact that they take us to uncomfortable mental spaces and to answer questions we don’t really have the answers to, means that we haven’t got it all worked out.

Are we doomed to failure? Maybe, we’re just on our way to discovering something new.

Many of our own shadows are there, in those questions that we have difficulty answering because they are taking us down to uncomfortable places we don’t want to be.

Helping others when you need to help yourself first

This is a difficult one. We all need saving, and we can all save others in the process. The way this pans out really comes down to looking deep down at who you are and all the corners that make you unique.

Look at the core of your deepest fears and you will find the answers.

For me, it is all about creating awareness through films, series, literature and any artistic expression where Gothic elements present themselves in form or archetypes.

I don’t have the answers, but I can help you find your own way. And maybe that’s my superpower: helping you connect the dots of your own map.

What is your superpower?

Final thoughts

  • Can we escape marketing questions while we are trying to reach the other side? I don’t think so, but we can find ways to make the journey more interesting.
  • Do you feel stuck on certain questions? That’s probably
  • a sign that you need to stop and work on that problem. Have a word with yourself without being too hard on yourself.
  • The dark spaces of your mind are full of valuable information. Don’t neglect them.
  • Maybe no escape is the only escape
