Marjorie Taylor Greene Has Been Banned From Holding Any Committee Assignments

The Democrats had to discipline an unhinged Republican because her party refused to do so

As promised, the Democrats on Thursday stripped Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments to the Health and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee with a vote of 230–199 which included 11 Republicans.

I guess they aren’t afraid of being added as a stop on Trump’s Revenge Tour.

They wanted to expel her from Congress but lacked the votes to do so and had to settle for banning her from sitting on any committees.

The Democrats had to take matters into their own hands because the Republicans, specifically Kevin McCarthy, the Minority Leader, refused to take any action against her beyond a mild scolding.

The Republicans are furious. They say that this is a dangerous precedent which could result in majority parties deciding which of the minority parties’ members could serve on committees. Which would be true if the Democrats’ motivation in removing her was because they didn’t like her.

In fact, they removed her because they (and other sane people) view her as a threat.

Ms. Greene has an interesting past. She has been a believer in the QAnon conspiracy. She has made claims that 9/11 was a hoax (because there are no photos of the plane that hit the Pentagon), that school shootings were staged, and that the California wildfires were started by space lasers controlled by Jewish bankers.

Excuse me while I take a moment to compose myself. I can’t believe that I am writing these things about a member of Congress.

Normally, at this point I would be ranting about people who vote for nutjobs, but this information came out after she was elected. I saw some televised interviews with Georgia voters who said that they would not have voted for her if they had known about her views.

That makes me feel a little better.

What motivated the Democrats to take action is because Ms. Greene has supported the execution of Nancy Pelosi and other party leaders. Can’t say that I blame them. Would you feel comfortable working with someone who wants to kill you?

As her past came to light, Ms. Greene deleted the offending social media posts, apparently forgetting that once something is posted to the internet, it is there forever. She also made an impassioned speech before the vote renouncing her past views and apologizing for them.

Yeah, it’s all fun and games until someone loses their committee assignments.

The following day, she had apparently decided that rather than take it personally she would blame the Democrats for denying her constituents a voice in policy making. She claims that she is now free to push the Republican Party to the right and support her “favorite POTUS”, Trump.

One thing that she said about Trump rang true.

“The party is his. It doesn’t belong to anybody else.”

Regrettably, I have to agree with her. The Republicans have cast their lot with an elderly man who sports an orange spray tan, a bad combover and a really creepy relationship with his oldest daughter.

I am fervently hoping that someday they will wake up and say “What was I thinking?”

I mean, look at his followers.

There’s the Boogaloo Bois, who besides not being able to spell, have adopted Hawaiian shirts as their uniforms. We are supposed to somehow know that the patterns on their shirts stand for “big luau” and “big igloo” which are code words for Boogaloo.

I don’t know how anyone can look at them in their Hawaiian shirts and tactical gear and not laugh. They look like security for a luau in case the pig hops out of the pit and starts running amok.

And then there are the Proud Boys. Those polo shirt and khaki clad incels who march around carrying tiki torches and chanting “Jews will not replace us.” Of course they won’t. Neither Jews nor anyone else wants to run around looking like a bunch of dollar store Nazis.

If this were a book or a movie, no one would believe it. The book would go straight into remainders and the movie straight to video.

The Republican Party and half the country seem to have lost their minds.

If you think about it, it’s pretty sad that the Democrats have to maintain some kind of sanity in the Republican Party because Republicans are unwilling to do it themselves.
