Marigolds and Morning Glories

The wild bunch

Marigolds and morning glories Know when summer is really here. Early food crops and prissier flowers Are all begging for gardeners’ time. This is what marigolds and morning glories Wait for, with outflung blooms finding Spaces to grow where no gardener intended. These two wild things in a garden then Invite their relatives and friendly Weeds to come over and move in.

While no one is looking they start to spread. So marigolds’ bold colors show up in some spaces, And morning glories’ soft hues appear in others. Marigolds crowd my wooden fence, And the morning glories gleefully climb And entwine themselves in the deck railing. Even though both bloomers love to travel, Take over, and fully claim territory, They don’t like the same turf, which is good Because they don’t flatter each other’s looks.

It doesn’t hurt to look for life lessons daily, and I wanted to know if the marigolds and Morning glories have lessons for us. They are both outliers, love wild freedom, And love to have their own space. Those aren’t bad human qualities either, Right? Well, we can admire their beauty, But having no controls or limits imposed Usually doesn’t work too well for them either.
