March Madness is Going to be Drastically Different This Year

The world of sports has been affected by Covid dramatically, especially for March Madness

March Madness has always been one of the most intensifying sporting events to ever bring people together.

The Covid-19 Pandemic changed everything for March of 2020 when it didn’t even exist. All the athletes who worked so hard to get into this elite experience were robbed of such an opportunity.

2021 has interesting things to come with this year’s “big dance”.

By the end of this article, you will have a better understanding of the following:

  • Why March Madness is different from previous years.
  • Exactly why the tournament is more meaningful this year.
  • Why you should create a bracket this year.

Why March Madness Will Differ From Previous Years

The stadiums, the rallies, and all the excitement will take a step back in 2021.

Although the NCAA will be allowing fans to watch the games in person, it won’t be nearly as filled as it would be without a Pandemic.

The experience for athletes will still be one filled with excitement from within, but externally, there won’t be a whole lot of noise in the arenas.

Typically, fans would surprise each other with tickets to big games, but with the safety precautions set in place, there will be fewer travelling fans who would otherwise be ramping up for several weeks of excitement.

March Madness Carries More Meaning This Year

With the world in the current state of social distancing, deterred travel, and work from home, the majority of people will enjoy the game together through Zoom calls, rather than in person.

The 2021 Superbowl between Kansas City and Tom-pa bay sparked up so much conversation between my friends, my family, and strangers.

Sporting events such as March Madness bring people together naturally, but especially since things aren’t “normal”, this event will bring more people together.

As a huge sports fan, I’m really looking forward to March Madness and can’t wait to see vicious upsets, and hopefully a “Cinderella story”.

Why I Encourage Everyone to Fill Out a Bracket

Filling out a March Madness bracket is like opening a random lottery ticket with massive returns. You literally have nothing to lose.

There have been years in the past where a perfect bracket (63 games) would result in a reward of $1 million or $100,000. The thrill of possibly winning big money like that is just fun.

I never expect to hit everything perfectly, but the excitement on Twitter, calls with friends, and other bracket participants is a memorable little event.

Back in high school, everyone filled out a bracket and we put money into a pot with a reward at the end. The person with the most accurate bracket turned out to be a girl who made her selections based on the colors of the team’s jerseys and she walked away with roughly $1,000!

The bracket challenge of March Madness is a fun tradition I would love to see more people take part in because it brings us together!

Final Thought

The world of sports was ripped away from us in 2020, but ever since they’ve mostly returned, things feel somewhat normal.

Sports fans all over the world are hyped about March Madness, including me.

I see this as another opportunity for many of us to connect, experience highs, lows, and feel a little more alive than we did yesterday.
