Management Fix
By definition, project planning is a procedural step in project management, where required documentation is created to ensure successful project completion. (1)

Planning may not be the most enjoyable component of managing projects, but it is the most vital part of reducing risk and failure rates. Project planning plays an essential role in helping guide stakeholders, sponsors, teams, and the project manager through other project phases. Planning is needed to identify desired goals, reduce risks, avoid missed deadlines, and ultimately deliver the agreed product, service, or result. (2)
To most people, the proverb’ measure twice, cut once’ may sound cliché. However, it happens to be an unofficial but essential rule in project management. Projects seem to be getting more complex and deadlines increasingly shorter. The pressure to hit these deadlines causes rush and kick off projects as soon as possible. So much so that some people even consider any time spent planning up-front as wasted time. In reality, however, this couldn’t be further from the truth. (3)
The benefits of planning a project: - the Planning Process Provides Direction; - the Planning Process Provides Accountability; - planning Means Adequate Resources are Considered; - anticipation and Proactive Addressing of Problems; - shared Resources and a Fair Division; - employee Expertise and a Growing Knowledge Base; - reliable Predictions of Timelines and Budgets; - employee Skill Discovery; - the Planning Process Provides Project Completion. (4)
Having a project plan puts you in a better position than having no plan at all. Savvy project managers focus on working smarter, not harder. By recognizing the need for planning from the project’s inception, you can make it easier (for both yourself and your team) to reach your project goals while avoiding stress, wasted time, and costly rework in the future.
