Summary

The article explores the interconnectedness of the universe and human existence through the lens of fractals, chaos theory, and the concept of determinism, drawing parallels between natural patterns and the human experience.

Abstract

The author reflects on the intricate patterns found in nature, exemplified by a personal experience with DMT, and discusses the concept of chaos as an inherent, structured component of the universe rather than mere disorder. The article delves into the Mandelbrot set and chaos theory to illustrate the fractal nature of creation, suggesting that the universe, including human life, may be governed by mathematical principles. It posits that the perceived free will of individuals might be an illusion, with human behavior and life events being part of a complex, deterministic system originating from the Big Bang. The author concludes by questioning the moral responsibility of actions within a deterministic framework and expresses gratitude to the readers, inviting them to support his work.

Opinions

  • The author initially dismissed the significance of their DMT experience but later recognized it as an early lesson on the fractal nature of the universe.
  • There is a belief that all things in existence, including humans, are composed of fractals, which are repeating mathematical patterns.
  • The article suggests that the concept of God could be synonymous with a mathematical function that manifests as the universe's fractal structure.
  • Chaos theory is presented as a framework that underlies the universe's systems, including human behavior, implying that what appears to be random may actually follow a pattern.
  • The author muses on the deterministic nature of the universe, questioning whether human actions are predetermined by a series of events tracing back to the Big Bang.
  • The article raises the idea that moral responsibility might be compromised if actions are the result of a chain of events beyond individual control.
  • Personal anecdotes, such as the author's back injury leading to a philosophical inquiry, are used to exemplify how life's events may not be as random as they seem.
  • The author expresses a deterministic worldview, where free will is limited, and life is a series of reactions to external stimuli within a chaotic system.
  • Despite the deterministic perspective, the author encourages readers to engage with their work by subscribing or offering financial support, highlighting the importance of audience connection.

Man Within God, God Within Man: The Reproduction of Chaos

“My life seemed to be a series of events and accidents. Yet when I look back, I see a pattern. In a fractal conception, I am a cell-sized unit of the human organism, and I have to use my life to leverage a shift in the system by how I am, as much as with the things I do.”

I hate to be the guy that talks about his DMT experience but it seems like a good starting point for this article.

I didn’t have a crazy profound journey from the drug. Things just kind of got weird then got unweird. I inhaled the substance and looked about the room to all my friends and furnishings. Creeping up the walls and the bodies around me was the pattern of a pineapple. Every object in my view rearranged into this pattern then a few minutes later returned to normal.

I didn’t harp too much on this. I wasn’t looking for the connection of all things, I just wanted to get high and see some cool shit. Now when I look back at this experience I realize I missed an early lesson on the fabrication of the universe. All things in this existence are made of fractals.

Fractals are mathematical patterns that never end. The whole of the pattern repeats itself infinitely. We find fractals in everything from pineapples to trees to humans to galaxies.

The Chaos Within God

We think of chaos as the absence of order. The word chaos paints in the mind unruly, ignorant, and destructive behavior. However, if we were to put an equation, or pattern, to chaos does that change the definition? Is chaos the lack of predictability or structure?

In 1986 Stanford professor Andrei Linde developed his theory of “Eternal Chaotic Inflation.” His theory proposes the idea that the Big Bang was not the only beginning of all things, but rather just the beginning of our universe. The theory states that all universes are born from other universes. You can imagine this as a cell reproducing. In this, we find that creation follows a pattern relying on the chaos in the universe to expand and reproduce.

You can read more about this here.

How are we to comprehend the infinite expansion of a fractal design? The sheer scale of this feat is almost unimaginable and impossible to grasp. I can’t speak for all people but in my life, I have encountered many believers of God who take on the assumption that the act of creation is not something that the human mind can comprehend.

Though through mathematics we have made that possible.

The Mandelbrot Set

The Mandelbrot set is derived from a simple mathematical formula Zn+1 = Zn2 + C. This formula creates an infinitely reproducing structure. Any point of the Mandelbrot set can be zoomed in on and it will never cease to create fractals. The explosion of reproducing fractals suggests that creation is not only comprehensible but has the possibility to be recreated by mankind.

Though we don’t, or have yet to, find the Mandelbrot set in nature the similarities between the structure and the mathematical makeup of all things in nature are not to be ignored.

The Mandelbrot set teaches us that the fractal structure of all things is the reason we exist. It points to a function of creation itself. It teaches us that God, or our idea of God is possibly a mathematical function that we are a part of. Within the infinitely spiraling and reproducing universe man has come to fruition. Having an embodiment that is capable of consciousness and reproduction is not a miracle of creation but rather a reflection of the grand scale of the cosmos that is found within us.

Chaos Theory

Just as the universe was created from a starting point and has unfolded to the vast scale of which it is now, so too do other systems in nature. The ensuing chaos that stems from these systems, such as weather patterns, makes tracking down the origin of the system close to impossible.

Chaotic systems are the threads of the universe woven in and out of all phenomena. Though only chaotic at the surface, the underlining of these systems often follows patterns and shares a sense of interconnectedness.

Variations in the universe have stemmed from conception. If the universe were to follow a linear and predictable line then we not have an abundance of creation. Small changes that occurred during the big bang have snowballed into the phase of the universe where I am writing this article and you are reading it. At some point long ago a random act of perceived chaos ensued in the explosion of the cosmos that altered the course of the particles involved which eventually led to the manifestation of my choosing to be a writer.

However, the fact that all things are just fractals of chaotic change and that chaos itself is determined by a set amount of conditions to be met would beg the question of determinism. If the universe follows predictable patterns that unfold the narrative of all things then is some divine force orchestrating the outcome of all things?

The Chaos Within Man

What series of events has led you to this moment in time? Surely, you did not just phase into reality at this point but were navigated to this current destination through previous decisions.

For me, I’m here because of an injury. I tore a disc in my back about seven years ago and the road to recovery led me to a yoga practice. This yoga practice led me to the philosophy surrounding yoga. Now, I can’t seem to go a day without thinking of the nature of all things and how we ourselves are reflections of the universe. In short, that injury made me a hippie.

If the flow of events that led me down this path could be predictable then the free will of man must be as well. If we are to place an equation or pattern on human behavior does that take away our freedom?

Perhaps the answer lies within chaos theory. Because the development of human behavior is nonlinear and relies on the self to process external stimuli then we can assume that the principles of chaos theory also apply to the human condition.

Our lives are based on decisions. How we can determine what decisions to make is based on our external stimuli and how we process the influence of our environments. If we could take two humans with the same exact base traits down to the last atom of their makeup and subject them to the same conditions would they develop in the same manner?

We all wish to believe that our lives are determined by our own free will but this would assume that we are capable of controlling things more so than is possible. I would argue the opposite, save for the amount of influence you exhibit back to the world. The fact that chaotic systems outside of yourself lead you to forced decisions takes away any of your perceived free will.

Determinism

If we are all subject to the flow of events in the universe then are we to be held morally responsible for our actions? Did the man who murdered his lover really make that decision out of his own free will? Perhaps at the conception of the universe, a certain amount of atoms reacted with each other in a way that led to the demise of that man’s lover. The fractal of the universe that became this exact scenario would play the scene out without the conviction of those involved.

This is the premise of determinism. It suggests that the universe itself has enacted a chain of events that led to all possible and preconceived outcomes. It does not throw away the idea that everything that can happen will happen. It does throw away the idea that your choice to read this article was of your own free will.

So, if we can trace the exact events back through time that led you to read this all the way to the interaction of the atoms that processed your being in the Big Bang then could we follow a fractal pattern from the beginning of time to the end of this article?

We may perceive our lives as the outcome of our own wills but perhaps we are all just subject to our own unique fractal of how the universe has decided to express itself.
