Their changes may pay off

After reading a story on Medium a while back about a woman who was happy and surprised to find that $1,000 had been deposited into her bank account from News Break, I decided to check it out. News Break sounded like it might be the answer (or at least an interim solution) to people trying to earn a little money on Medium without a lot of success.

She had signed up with News Break as a contributor on a lark with hope but little expectation. She didn’t think they would really give her the money, but they did. The money showed up in her account after the first month just as they had promised. It made her day. She encouraged others to sign up. Many people may have taken her advice.

I had not heard of News Break prior to reading that article, although it had been around for several months by then. I read up on it, and it sounded like an excellent platform. It was a way to earn money for writing. While you might make pennies or several dollars on Medium, you could be paid $1,000 a month from News Break by adhering to a few fairly simple requirements. You could even use your prior Medium stories to submit to News Break.

It sounded almost too good to be true. A guaranteed extra $1,000 a month would be nice to have for anyone. It seemed like an easy way to earn money for something you were already doing. News Break seemed like it was working.

What could hurt from giving it a try? I sent an email to News Break. Their information had said that they would respond to your email and you could get signed up within five to seven days. They might invite you to fill out an application and get started right away. An immediate reply email came back. Of course, it was a form letter.

The return email said that they now are having so many inquiries that it is taking them longer to get a response to people. Well, that has turned out to be totally true. It has now been one month since that email arrived. Not a further word came from them (unless it ended up in the spam folder).

After that initial email, there was another article that appeared on Medium by a man who had written for News Break. He said that they were changing their format and would not be paying out that $1,000 per month, as had been agreed originally. He was not happy about it, but realized that they might have to change their policies.

They started with a big influx of money.

The information about News Break had said that they had a big investor, which made it possible to pay out $1,000 guaranteed income per month to all their contributors. The writers just had to comply with the requirements to send in three articles per week.

They must have run out of money and discovered that their plans were not sustainable. What happens next with News Break is not known. They may still end up being a good way for writers to earn some extra money — or maybe not.

Life has many challenges, and News Break may have faced some of its own. They are likely working to make their platform better. It may be a good thing for all those involved. Some people have had success already on News Break, and it could work for others in the future.

News Break might still be the answer. Maybe it will be a way to earn some money. We will have to wait and see what happens. Some people seem to think it is still a good program, that will eventually pay when they get the kinks worked out.

In the meantime, we can still write on Medium and hope to someday gain that coveted success that we are seeking.
