Making Breakfast. Poem in Pictures.

I’m having fun, plus I get a delicious treat!

Finished result. Just add milk and start munching. Doing this poem gave me an appetite.

Breakfast muesli, Food contemplation, Not just mechanical cutting mixing arranging and milk flooding, Neither vacant mind nor vacuous smile, Only waking up after coffee around lunchtime!

Breakfast muesli pleasant task and enjoyable thoughts, Following vigorous exercise and shower.

Arranging and Adding Rolled Oats.

Son’s Artisan bowl. Carefully weighed (sort of) Organic Rolled Oats. Picture by John Rose.

Everything in place, Adding organic thick rolled oats, Thirty grams or thereabouts, Actually fistful fairly right, Following in Grandmother’s footsteps, She just knew all her recipes and measures, Like to picture myself back in her kitchen, She would call my fistfull “proper hand full”, Mind you in those far-off days my hands were rather small.

Next, Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey.

Drizzle honey, being careful to stop at 7 grams. Oops, bit much. Oh well be more careful tomorrow! Picture by John Rose.

Buy Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey direct from wholesalers with certificate of authenticity, Ensure quality and keep costs down.

Honey drizzle, Dangerously skirting greed and frugality, My specification carefully worked out decades ago, Allows for 7 grams, Bit parsimonious, Carefully check my dead accurate scales, Eyes firmly closed, Nice accurate measure, Ask no questions, Tell no lies.

First measure of milk.

Just enough milk to cover oats. Picture by John Rose.

Now comes milk time, Just enough to cover and soak oats, Like them chewy, Another texture contrasting with apple and soft dried fruit.

Milk’s compromise between taste and reduced fat, Hate taste of skim milk and don’t even mention soy concoction or frightful almond, Mere thought drives me to emergency cup of proper coffee.

Dried Fruit Time.

Time to prepare Dried fruit. Picture by John Rose.

Took some time to select apricots and prunes, Measured blood sugar reactions years ago, Now occasionally check, Five apricots and four prunes, Quantity varied according to size and weight.

Finely sliced spread on soaking oats, Prefer to lay prunes then apricots, Brighter look.

Apple topping

Aple quartered. Half for next breakfast. Finely sliced. Picture by John Rose.

Use “Pink Lady” or Granny Smith apples, Firm and crisp, Finely sliced to create different whimsical patterns,

Tried square shapes, Paving stones path in imagination, Hard to achieve, Can’t buy square apples, Favorite pattern is Inuit ice igloo, Most enjoyable cutting and shaping uncooperative apple.

Sometimes small apple requires very thin translucent slices, Other times with large Granny Smith end up with very tall robust igloo, I do have fun.

Grandkids help when they come for breakfast, Arrange fruit as pet dog or horse, Whatever takes their fancy.

Poem Serving.

Finally carefully place on sun-bathed table, Pour more milk, Floating slices self-arrange in circles around apple island.

Contemplation.

Enjoy breakfast, Thinking about day’s activities, Writing poems, Walking exercise, Bit of shopping, Course admin marking students writing lectures, Talking with kids, Forest trip and being with Gaia.

Blessed be.

Myself in apartment enjoying poetic breakfast. Contemplating walking light path to Gaia. Picture by John Rose.
