Make The Most Of The Time You Have
You never know when it’ll be taken away
We all are guilty of taking life for granted.
We show the utmost gratitude when we make lots of money, or meet the perfect partner but we forget to show gratitude for the fact that we woke up in the morning, and were able to go to bed the night before.
Maybe it’s because of everything happening in the world, or the fact that lately, I have been listening to podcasts and other people’s stories of losing loved ones so suddenly, but the impermanence of life has really been hitting me and caused me to evaluate how I take life for granted myself.
Some people don’t like to think like this because they believe it to be morbid or negative, and I used to think like this too.
When you think about it, there is nothing morbid about it really. It means that you understand that our time on Earth is temporary, so you should be making the most of it.
You never know when it’s the last time
A while ago a friend of mine said goodbye to her mother as she headed off to work, it was a normal day until it wasn’t.
Little did she know that the next time she would see her mother she would be on life support at the hospital and then 3 days later they had to take her off it and she was gone.
This understandably devastated her family and even as her friend it was devastating because nobody saw it coming, it was so sudden.
The sad thing is things like this happen all the time.
There is a podcast I listen to called the VeryWell Mind, and the host has had more than her fair share of loss too. She lost both her mother and husband exactly 3 years apart from each other and both were sudden deaths too.
A wake-up call
It’s sad that it takes something so huge for us to realise how temporary life is, but it should also serve as a wake-up call to people not living the life that they want, that they should start to make changes to create their dream life.
That project you wanted to start?
That place you wanted to visit?
That person you wanted to befriend?
That skill you wanted to learn?
The time isn’t tomorrow, or next week to do all these things.
The time is now.
We don’t know if there will be a tomorrow, it isn’t promised.
If there is one thing that I have learned, it is that life isn’t fair. This may sound pessimistic to some, however, this knowledge is how we cope with the hard times and make the most of the good times.
Create change
We just need to stop holding ourselves back and start living the life that we want. Sure there will be things where it seems impossible to take action at the moment, but even making a start is something. Take small steps every day so that at least you know you tried.
Because the reality is that life is short, and the time we have here is limited, no one truly wakes up knowing it is their last day.
This is why we have to make every day count and spend our time in the ways that fulfill us, or carve out even a small amount of time for the things that we have always desired to do.
Time is passing us by and we can’t change that. We can change the way we live and make our lives the embodiment of our dreams.
“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
